Ozymandias (unique, signed Abstract Expressionist painting by renowned painter)

By Ben Wilson

Located in New York, NY

Ben Wilson Ozymandias, 1989 Oil on masonite board Boldly signed by Ben Wilson on the back 36 × 48 inches Unframed Provenance: acquired from the Estate of Ben Wilson This work is titled "Ozymandias" after the famous sonnet written by Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792-1822). Shelley's poem is one of the most poignant meditations on the fleeting nature of human power and the inevitability of decline. The poem serves as a reminder that time erodes even the most imposing empires and leaders and that the pursuit of lasting fame and control is ultimately futile. Depending on how one views Ben Wilson's Abstract Expressionist painting of "Ozymandias" -- some of the imagery might reveal the head of an angry king and a sickle. Shelley's poem Ozymandias reads: I met a traveler from an antique land...

Antique 19th Century Norwegian Artists Oil Painting Pastoral Windmill Shepherd

Antique 19th Century Norwegian Artists Oil Painting Pastoral Windmill Shepherd

Located in Stockholm, SE

Attributed to Morten Müller (1828-1911) and Olaf Christopher Dahl (1842-1895), signed lower right, this extraordinary antique oil painting captures the timeless beauty of 19th century Norwegian pastoral landscape. This exceptional collaborative masterpiece, painted circa 1870-1880 during the golden age of Norwegian landscape art, depicts an enchanting countryside scene where a young shepherd boy guides his cattle to a tranquil watering hole. The composition unfolds like a gentle poem of rural life, with lush vegetation embracing rolling hills while an ancient windmill stands majestically on the distant hillside, creating striking focal point and masterful perspective. Rich oil painting technique reveals the artists' shared vision of Norway's serene countryside, where peaceful pastoral tranquility below contrasts dramatically with gathering storm clouds above. This romantic Norwegian landscape tradition showcases nuanced brushwork and atmospheric effects that exemplify the peak of Scandinavian art movement. Both renowned Norwegian artists are prominently featured in National Museum Oslo permanent collection, confirming their significant contribution to Nordic artistic heritage. This rare antique oil painting represents sublime testament to 19th century collaborative artistry, where two masters united their talents to create lasting vision of Norway's natural beauty. Size app.: 46 x 69 cm (roughly 18.1 x 27.2 in), with frame 60 x 84 cm cm (roughly 23.6 x 33.1 in). Good condition with wear, tiny losses to paint in minor areas and craquelure. So it needs minor care and conservation. Please study good resolution images for overall cosmetic condition. In person actual painting may appear darker or brighter than in our pictures, strictly depending on sufficient light in your environment. Weight of app. 4.4 kg is going to measure some 6 kg volume weight packed for shipment. Morten Müller began his art studies with Adolph Tidemand and Hans Gude in Düsseldorf, Germany, from 1847 to 1848. From 1850 he was again a student at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, with Johann Wilhelm Schirmer as a teacher. From 1850 to 1851, Müller painted with the Swedish landscape painter Marcus...

Located in Soquel, CA

Against The Tide - Oil On Linen Oil painting of the California coastline at sunset in the style of Edgar Alwin Payne (American, 1883-1947). Deep grey clouds pose in the top corners with hues of pink light shining through. Choppy waves crash against deep red and brown rocks, as the whites of the wave hurl upward. The ocean shows tones of green, blue and yellow as the sunlight shines from above. Condition: professionally restored, previous reline onto Masonite with edge and corner wear. New UV resisting, non yellowing varnish applied. Unsigned. Unframed. Oil on linen on masonite. Image: 16"H x 30"W Edgar Alwin Payne was an American painter known for his landscapes, seascapes and western paintings. He was born in Washburn, Missouri on March 1, 1882, and began painting at the age of 14. He began his career by designing and painting scenery for the stage, and murals for homes and theaters. Primarily a self taught artist, he did though study briefly at the Art Institute in Chicago. Recognized as one of California's leading landscape artists, Payne earned the respect of his peers and art critics for his Impressionistic landscapes painted in the plein-air style. Possessing a reverence for nature, he especially loved the mountains. Frequently he took pack horses in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range to the upper lakes to sketch and paint, there he glorified the areas majestic peaks and cobalt blue lakes. Payne Lake was named in his memory. Drawn to Europe, Payne trekked to and painted the elevated heights of the Swiss Alps, the colorful fishing boats of Concarneau Harbor and Brittany, France and the picturesque sailing vessels of Chioggia, Venice, Italy. He spent time capturing on canvas Arizona's Canyon De Chelly and Navajo horsemen traversing the region's arid tablelands. He painted California...

"An Invasion", Chicago, Woman figure, social change, Acrylic on Wood

By Qiaira Riley

Located in Philadelphia, PA

"An Invasion" is a piece by Qiaira Riley made from acrylic paint and beads on found wood. This piece measures measures 24"h x 24"w unframed. "Inspired by the changing visual landscape of my hometown of Chicago, I created these works to explore how the gentrification of the south-side disrupts intimate, private memories associated with public spaces in the name of urban "renewal," even creating commodifiable opportunities to make community memories public and profitable, yet not sacred. I was attending a suburban private liberal arts college; many classmates often seemed obsessed with fantastical, cheap narratives about my community and the folks in it that deeply contrasted the memories of love and care I had grown up with. These works remember and reclaim these spaces while showing off my favorite public treasures, sights, and delicacies. There are also odes to the sweet parts of my adolescence that I hope urban development will not shift: running around the city with my father, who has worked for the Chicago Park District for over 25 years, my mom getting me a 6 piece from Harold's Chicken whenever I got a good report card, or stopping by Zberry, the city's first black-woman owned froyo shop to get a treat after school. I moved to Philadelphia that same year with just two suitcases, my art supplies storage...

Oakland, California artist. Size 23.5"H x 16.5"W Signed lower left "Paul A. Schmitt" Exhibition label on verso, "Alameda Art Association, Paul A. Schmitt Oil Still Life No 10" Painter, watercolorist, illustrator and teacher, Paul Schmitt was born in Philadelphia, in 1893 and moved to San Francisco in 1898 where he lived until the 1906 earthquake took his family home. He then moved to the Fruitvale district of Oakland. He died of natural causes at the age of 90 in San Leandro, California. Paul Schmitt studied under Perham Wilhelm Nahl, at the California College of Arts and Crafts. He also learned various crafts, woodworking and carving skills from his father, Herman Schmitt, a German wood carver working in San Francisco. Herman's works are still found in various San Francisco public buildings including the city hall chambers and the garden court of the Palace Hotel. Schmitt joined twelve other local San Francisco artists to form the group called "The Thirteen Watercolorists", a group that eventually evolved into the Society of Western Artists. Their early members included Alfred Owles, Will Cameron, Maurice Logan, Maynard Dixon and many others. Paul worked with engineers and architects doing models of many projects. He was versatile in that he also did illustrations for various publications and advertisers. He fathered thirteen children. In the late 1930's he decided to accept a teaching position in the local adult schools where he retired in his eighties. Paul was very fond of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and yearly took his large family there on camping /sketching trips. He did a series of oils of the California missions. He also traveled extensively on sketching trips including Mexico where he did a series of Mexican churches...
