“Headed to Market, 1916”
Located in Southampton, NY
Original drawing of a woman heading to market by the well known American artist, Everett Shinn. Mixed media work created with charcoal, pastel and gouache. Signed with the artist’s initials lower right and dated 1916. Condition is very good. Under glass. Matted and in a period gold frame with restorations. Overall framed measurements are 23.5 by 17.25 inches. Provenance: A New York City estate. Everett Shinn (1876 – 1953) Everett Shinn, a realist artist associated with the Ashcan School and member of “The Eight” was born in New Jersey in 1876. After showing an aptitude for the arts as a child, at age 15, Shinn was enrolled at the Spring Garden Institute in Philadelphia. He quickly moved on to classes at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and by the age of 17, he was working as a staff artist for the Philadelphia Press. While working at the Press, Shinn befriended fellow artists William J. Glackens, George Luks, and John Sloan. This group, with Robert Henri and Joseph Laub, established the Charcoal Club, a social and intellectual sort of alternative art school. In 1897, Shinn moved to New York City to work as an illustrator at the New York World. He became fascinated by the drama of the city. While visiting Europe in 1900, Shinn took interest in the work of the Impressionists, particularly those of Degas. Degas’ influence can be read in Shinn’s depictions of American theater. From his acquaintances in the theater world, Shinn began to paint decorative “rococo revivalist” murals in the homes of the wealthy elite. He also worked extensively in pastel, portraying the rough life of the city. In 1908, Shinn exhibited alongside his Charcoal Club associates, with the addition of Arthur B. Davies, Ernest Lawson, and Maurice Prendergast...

Eyitayo created "Beleive" with Mixed Media on a Primed canvas of 36W by 36H Inches Believe is a masterpiece that deserves to be celebrated. It is a powerful artwork that embodies the spirit of hope and faith that we so desperately need in these trying times. At its core, Believe is a symbol of optimism and perseverance. The artwork features a stunningly intricate image of a young boy, set against a backdrop of calming blue tones, the boy stands tall and proud, representing the resilience and strength that we all possess within us. The beauty of this artwork lies not only in its design but in its message. Believe is a reminder that we should never give up on our dreams, no matter how impossible they may seem. It encourages us to trust ourselves and to have faith in the path that we have chosen. It is not just an artist's interpretation of life, it is a positive force that inspires us to look at the world with a new perspective. Believe conveys that life has an amazing power to heal our system and rejuvenate our spirits. In today's world, where negativity and despair seem to be taking over, Believe is a beacon of hope. Its message is simple yet profound: we are capable of overcoming any obstacle if we believe in ourselves and never give up. The fact that Believe has managed to touch so many lives is a testament to its worth. It is not just a piece of art, but a timeless masterpiece that has the potential to inspire people for generations to come. Shadows and Diamonds
Located in Ibadan, Oyo
At the heart of "Shadows and Diamonds," we encounter the theme of shadows. John ingeniously uses shadows to represent the obscured aspects of our individuality, the parts of ourselves that are hidden from the outside world. These shadows can be seen as the unexplored depths of our personality, our fears, or our secrets. The young man in the artwork seems to embrace his shadows, suggesting a willingness to acknowledge and confront those hidden aspects of his being. By portraying shadows as an integral part of the artwork, John challenges us to embrace our own shadows and accept them as essential components of our identity. The shadows in "Shadows and Diamonds" serve as reminders that the multifaceted nature of human existence is not limited to what is visible on the surface but extends far beyond, into the realm of the intangible and the mysterious. While shadows represent the hidden aspects of self, diamonds in the artwork symbolize the facets that shine through, the qualities and characteristics that we choose to reveal to the world. Diamonds are known for their brilliance and sparkle, and in "Shadows and Diamonds," they represent the positive attributes that we proudly display to others. They symbolize our achievements, our talents, and the qualities that make us unique and valuable. Through the juxtaposition of shadows and diamonds, John invites us to reflect on the delicate balance between revealing and concealing different aspects of our identity. The young man's beaded necklace, adorned with diamonds, suggests a celebration of self-discovery and the courage to embrace and showcase the diverse elements that constitute our true selves. In addition to the symbolism present within the artwork, Makama John...
