Smith was a female Archie-type — not exactly an imitator, because Archie, who had started only four years earlier, hadn't yet become popular enough to spawn imitators, but part of his genre. Rhapsody'' is Bartlett's multi-part, multi-theme epic, a statement of the coming of age of an artist. A portable mural extended over 987 one-foot steel plates requiring 153 running feet of wall space, it is an enormous and infrequently mastered challenge to install and exhibit. In 1985-86, however, it will be on view in Minneapolis, Kansas City, Brooklyn, La Jolla, and Pittsburgh, and well worth a trip. In book form it becomes more available, with Smith's guided tour through sections, with Bartlett's notes giving conceptual coherence, and the opportunity to move from close-up to long view by turning a page. Rhapsody'' and this book afford a glimpse of a mind and art in action, a discovering and ordering process, an exciting demonstration of ways of growing and expressing the self and the world. Highly recommended.

By the mid-1970s, Jennifer Bartlett (1941-2022, b. Long Beach, California) had emerged as a leading American artist of her time—particularly following the landmark presentation at Paula Cooper Gallery of Rhapsody (1976), Bartlett’s magnum opus, now in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York. Bartlett’s first survey exhibition was held in 1985 at the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, and traveled to the Brooklyn Museum, New York, and the Carnegie Museum of Art, Philadelphia, among others. In 2006, the Addison Gallery of American Art surveyed Bartlett’s early enameled steel plate paintings in the period from 1968–76. In 2013-14, Klaus Ottmann curated her second traveling survey, which visited the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and the Parrish Art Museum, New York. Painter and printmaker Will Barnet has actively participated in the New York art world for nearly 70 years. A leading figure in the Indian Space painting movement of the late 1940s, Barnet stressed the spatial structures of Northwest Coast Indian art. Throughout the 1950s and into the 1960s, he made a series of hardedged, totemic abstractions marked by their "all-positive" space, which he described as austere, classical expressions of Indian culture. He then moved on to new art forms in the 1960s and 1970s, creating a series of family and art world portraits that achieved a remarkable balance between the formal demands of abstraction and the humanist aspects of representation.
Will Barnet: A Timeless World is the first substantial publications to unify Barnet's prodigious output. Art historian Gail Stavitsky provides an overview of this artist's entire career. Twig Johnson, the museum's curator of Native American Art, discusses the relationship of Barnet's work to this important indigenous artistic tradition. Jessica Nicoll, chief curator at the Portland Museum of Art, explores the profound impact of New England upon Barnet and his work. This gorgeous, oversized lavishly illustrated hardback monograph - hand signed by Mario Testino and numbered from the limited edition of 1500 - with a dynamic lenticular cover featuring an iconic portrait of Lady Gaga, housed in custom fitted multi-lingual injection-molded purple acrylic display case with English and Chinese lettering, makes the perfect gift for any global fashion photography lover! The text of this book is by Graydon Carter, Karl Lagerfeld, Jennifer Allen, and Patrick Kinmonth. This volume contains 300 pages with numerous color photographs - all in excellent condition. There is some minor scuffing/scratching on the lenticular cover and, on the title page with signature, there's a one inch ink mark that was either part of the printing process or done by the artist himself when he signed the book in his inimitable hand, but it's otherwise in very good condition. The interior pages are bright and crisp and the photographs are absolutely dazzling. This book is from the international collector's edition of 1500 that were hand signed by Testino. Comes in the original publisher's box.

This piece is an original artwork by Jason Chen titled "Like Nobody’s Watching". It is made of archival pigment prints from the artist's photography that he cuts and weaves together by hand. The piece measures 40.5”h x 30”w and ships framed in the pictured 44.75”h x 34”w frame.
In 2012, Jason Chen shifted his long-running focus on dry plate tintypes to a new process: photo weaving. Chen began using two separate images of the same person, then wove them together in a process exploring time, movement, process, and mutation. He has exhibited works in the series one by one over the years, but in Fragments, his first solo exhibition at Paradigm Gallery, a full collection of these works were on display together for the first time.
