Abstract expressionist oil painting with assembled objects by Bay Area artist Michael Pauker (American, b. 1957). Splashes of gold paint are applied to a wood panel, with a few bits of burnt umber. Several objects - including a paint tube, cotton balls, and a miniature painting - are attached to the panel. Signed "Michael Pauker", titled "His Name Was Writ in Acrylic Paint", and dated "2017" on verso. There is a note from the artist that this is the top of a two-part piece, but the whereabouts of the bottom half are unknown. Unframed. This contemporary piece is made with dichroic film on mirror and is framed in a modern white frame. The application of the film creates a changing colorful aesthetic so that the viewer sees different colors like pink, blue, purple, and orange as they change the angle at which they view it. Areas around the periphery that look metallic give the mixed-media piece an almost painterly aesthetic. This abstracted mirror invites interaction and adds a playful alternate view to any space. It can hang vertically or horizontally, and is ready to hang. "I seek to find balance between the creative process and the present moment using color as a direct and indirect language," the artist says. "Color series paintings explore the dynamics between light, pigment, and the viewer. To achieve this, I work with mirrors as my canvas and a medium that allows for drastic shifts, effected by natural exposures, like light, the angle of a space, and the viewer themselves. Combining the reflective areas of a mirror with color...

LOREN MUNK (american b. 1951) MUNKEY BUSINESS Signed and dated 'Munk 84' verso, mixed media construction with paint brushes, mirrored mosaic tile, gold leaf and oil paint 57 x 33 x 23 in. (144.8 x 83.8 x 58.4cm) Provenance: Malcolm Forbes collection The artist Loren Munk (born 1951) is primarily known for his YouTube nickname James Kalm as an uploader of videos about New York exhibitions, amongst others. He presents himself as a maker of contemporary paintings for several decades and of cubist paintings of urban imagery. Munk has received accolades for his drawings and mosaics. He differs from traditional mosaic artists by the manner in which he incorporates glass into his decorative paintings. His unique and innovative use of materials such as mirror, gold-leaf and glass mosaic affirmed him as a founding force of Kitsch Art and a leading member of New York Neo-Expressionism. Munk's work debuted in SoHo in 1981 with a double show at J. Fields Gallery and Gabrielle Bryers. Since then, he has overseen an international career. In addition to exhibiting in Brazil, France, Germany and the United States, Munk has received national and overseas, public and private commissions. He is well represented in important collections throughout Europe, South and North America and the Middle East. Most recently, Munk has been producing a series of paintings which tackle the subject of art itself through a historical and diagrammatic lens. Munk documents the New York art world in YouTube videos, using the name James Kalm. This contemporary mixed media piece is made with mixed media on a circular mirror. Deep blue-grey color has been applied over the bottom half of the mirror, giving it a painterly, dripped aesthetic but also allowing for mirror to continue to show through. The mirror base reflects its surroundings and changes in alternating light. It hangs beautifully and safely with a wooden cleat, giving the illusion that the work is almost floating on the wall. "'Moon Series' is a collection of works all created in the shape of a circle," the artist says. "I was drawn to the magic of this shape. It has no beginning or end, and no divisions, making it the perfect symbol of completeness. Each uniquely different in the use of color, composition and nature of experience it brings while standing in front it. I like the idea of interactive art...

"Primary Urchin" Colorful, decorative patterns with dimensional paint on glass

By PJ Linden

Located in Philadelphia, PA

This piece titled "Primary Urchin" is an original artwork by PJ Linden and is made from dimensional paint on mosaic glass tile. This piece measures 5.5”h x 5”w. Based upon patterns and textures found in nature, primarily aquatic life, the natural rough, granulated surfaces of shark and stingray skins, urchin spines and fish scales, as well as the markings and colorations serving to repel predators, Linden creates second skins or aposematic pelts, employing them as unconventional canvases. Born 1985 Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. PJ Linden is a New York City and Pennsylvania-based fine artist known for her abstract, three-dimensional work. She paints with machine-like precision, creating microscopic patterns on found objects, fashion, and technology. Linden got her start working with Patricia Field, creating custom, one-of-a-kind art and fashion under the name Wonderpuss Octopus. At Field's iconic, namesake boutique, Linden's work caught the eye of celebrity clients including Beyonce, Willow Smith, Kelly Osborne, and Solange Knowles...
