Based in Chicago, IL, contemporary artist Michael Thompson creates unique kites, collages and mixed media works assembled from material fragments of past and present collected in his travels. In his ongoing series of memory jugs, Thompson adorns stoneware vessels with a kaleidoscope of ceramic shards, found objects, and pocket-sized trinkets he collected over the course of his life. Also known as forget-me-not jugs or spirit jars, memory jugs are African American folk art objects that honor a loved one who has recently passed. Small tokens and mementos of the deceased are gathered and affixed to the exterior of a jug or vase, an abundance of memories that celebrates a life lived to the fullest. Michael Thompson applies this tradition to his own practice, creating tactile assemblages of this and that. Formed in the manner of collage, each jug honors the lost memories of generations past and his own memories of personally discovering each item. With varied sources for materials including Kyoto, Turkey, and Mexico, a great number of the found shards are 18th and 19th century ceramics...

Bedazzle 2006 Porcelain, luster, plexiglas, rhinestones, feathers 8" x 8" x 18" Signed COA provided Rain Harris uses her artistry with material to create a conversation between good taste, beauty, and tawdriness. By developing a piece with unrefined materials and bringing it to the point of refinement, she is creating art that asks where good and bad taste meet. This contemporary ceramic piece features a delicate array of porcelain flowers, berries, and leaves mounted on an organically shaped wooden plinth. The light green resin reflects the image of the porcelain bouquet.

Materials : Terracotta, white gold luster Date : 2016 Dimensions : 16 x 8.5 x 8.5 inches Description : wheel thrown and altered terracotta, cone 04 oxidation, glazes and luster COA provided Mariko Brown Harkin about her work: "My fascination with pottery comes from my desire to make art and to produce something that is not only functional but visually appealing. Porcelain allows me stretch and shape the clay in any way I choose and offers a blank canvas for my floral imagery and luscious, rich glazes to blend. The forms I create are tight and precise with a sense of restricted volume. I use bands around the form to constrict specific areas of each piece, while at the same time creating space for the volume and fullness to escape. The bands create registers to frame my drawings and paintings of floral imagery. The way I combine surface and form is inspired by Ming Dynasty porcelain...
