He received his degree from the University of Utah, then served two years in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Having spent numerous years as a guide and ski instructor, Denny has learned to love the rivers and mountains of the western states of Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, and Utah. After moving to Loveland, a hub of successful working sculptors, he wasted no time in getting monumental sculpture experience through working with renowned sculptors including Fritz White and Kent Ullberg N.A. Since 1987, Denny has created and placed dozens of monumental compositions; spanning the full spectrum of the figurative genre. As a member of the Potawatomi Citizen Nation, it is only natural for his artwork to follow the Native American culture. His art has not been limited to Native American and southwestern subjects, however, as he frequently explores abstract forms placing emphasis on the qualities of the metal and stone used. As a Charter member of the National Sculptors' Guild and being close to other sculptors and the Loveland area foundries has helped him to master all the foundry processes involved in producing a desirable and lasting monumental bronze sculpture. I currently reside on a sailboat in Oakland, CA with my studio in nearby San Leandro. I work with permanent materials including bronze, steel, stainless steel, aluminum, glass and stone. It is my contention that a work of art must include a complete environment, not just a single object. In my opinion, it is very difficult to convey meaning with either pure abstraction, or pure representation. Describing an abstract concept with another abstraction does not define the subject. There is nothing in a completely non-objective artwork from the viewers experience upon which to base some meaning. One the other hand, a completely realistic presentation doesn't define an abstraction any better than a dictionary. This is why my sculpture is a blend - the symbolic joining of modern man with primitive experience. They are in-depth studies of the archetypes and symbols used to communicate their relevance to our everyday lives. Mythology, poetry and art are humanity's attempt to describe the mysteries of life which are beyond our ability to consciously comprehend. Philippe Chambault The artist was born August 9, 1930, in Châtenay-Malabry (Hauts-de-Seine), where he did his primary schooling. Then he studied art at the School of Applied Arts in Paris, and especially at the woodcarving workshop. In 1954, he entered the studio of the sculptor Georges Serraz (the author of Christ-Roi des Houches), and he replaced Henri Dunand, who returned to Vallorcine to run the family business (this is also his friendship with the latter who is the cause of his installation as a secondary residence in Vallorcine, from 1961). He meets the sculptor Louis Derbré, become one of the leaders of the figurative renewal, and befriends him. It is at his instigation that he participates in different salons. He won two national awards: the Fénéon Fellowship in 1956 and the Vikings Prize in 1957. In 1961, he joined J. Balme, a medal publisher in Saumur.
