Italian Silvana Cenci Signed Mid Century Modern Steel Gold Explosion Sculpture
By Silvana Cenci
Located in Surfside, FL
Silvana Cenci, internationally renowned explosive sculptor, died October 1, 2000 at her home in Gray. Ms. Cenci, who was born in Florence, Italy, before World War II, married Stuart Church and moved to the U.S. permanently in 1959. She lived in Boston for many years, where she was a founder of the Brookline Art Center and a founding member of Summerthing. She exhibited widely throughout Europe and the U.S., and her work is in many museums and public and private collections. After moving to the States, Ms. Cenci began working with new technologies from the aircraft industry, and with explosives. She moved to Northwood, NH, in the early 60s, and pursued and perfected her revolutionary experimentation with explosive sculpture in stainless steel. A native of Italy, she lived most of her life in America where she became internationally known, primarily for using dynamite to blast images into stainless steel and finishing some pieces with pure gold. The pieces created with dynamite were often utilized by architects. One piece titled “Wheels in Motion” hung in Boston’s South Station. "Nimbus" - abstract sculpture - Barbara Hepworth
Located in Atlanta, GA
Susan Hable is inspired by the work of David Hockney, Milton Avery, Henri Matisse, Alex Katz, Howard Hodgkins, Hilma af Klint, Georgia O'Keeffe, Barbara Hepworth and Constantin Brâncuși. With humor and a bit of mischief, Susan Hable’s “Don't Pick The Flowers!” is a body of work that is at once a refuge and a playground. Inspired by her sumptuous garden just outside of her Athens studio, Susan flows from one medium to the next from painting to collage to sculpture. Susan sees her garden as a place for adventure and daydreaming, challenging her perceptions of what her Art can be. Even a weedy ground cover has caught Susan’s eye, an overlooked invasive is seen in a new light becoming a dreamlike fairytale path. Her work asks us to engage in life, go for a walk and play. Susan Hable Smith is the artist and designer behind the boldly colored and hand drawn patterns of Hable Construction...

Victorious
Located in Napa, CA
cast glass, wood, sheet metal, oxides, acrylic paints Dan Corbin's sculptures are a convergence of conceptualism and the human figure, illuminating what it feels like to be alive during current times, with all its beauty, complexity, contradictions, and possibilities. The artist’s sculptures address issues of contemporary society - materialism, industrialization and cultural change - while simultaneously referring to a wide range of human emotions. His sculptures lift the spirit while questioning what it is to be human. In Corbin’s archetype of man, intellect and soul are separate from the body. Armless, headless, anonymous cores can now be broken down to the smallest units, analyzed, engineered, beautified, and commodified. Corbin’s articulation of figurative sculpture takes iconography of the present and embeds it in the surface of his sculptures. He calls these miniature time capsules ‘inclusions’. Objects like cosmetic bottles, action figures, dolls, and feeder fish are sealed in resin and strategically embedded throughout the body. With these ‘inclusions’ the figure becomes a technologically enhanced vessel. The human body is no longer a container for a perfect being, handed down by god or evolution, but an aesthetically enhanced harbinger of a new era. In combination with the ‘inclusions’ Corbin uses a multitude of industrial materials, emphasizing the intrinsic value and physical properties of each. Each surface becomes fully charged with content, primed for multiple interpretations. Dan Corbin has been included in notable exhibitions at galleries and institutions including the Museum of Northern California Art...
