XOX Chill Yellow 1/10 - graphic, pop-art, figurative, resin sculpture

By Viktor Mitic

Located in Bloomfield, ON

Playful, colourful and imaginative, Viktor Mitic’s latest series of sculptures appear to merge pop art with science fiction. The colour palette is fun, bright and contemporary—a sunny yellow. These 3-D figures began as digital creations, sculpted out of resin and painted. Their form was initially inspired by the towering abstract sculptures Mitic produced from images of paint splashes on his studio floor. Edition one of ten. “This character has emerged from a shadow of one of my sculptures (as in the video) I have always been a fan of science as well as science fiction writing and movies. For me, X-O-X is a ‘being’ that came out of a technological world possibly from another galaxy.” Viktor Mitic “As an icon, or hybrid worthy Viktor Mitic- X-O-X has a synthetic, playful identity. It’s culturally a fusion of influences brought together in one formal public sculpture.” John K. Grande, author, poet, essayist He earned a BFA from the University of Toronto in 1995 with studies in art history at Sheridan College. He has exhibited his post-Pop inspired...

Dance Within - Wear Only Sky (suspended)

By Denny Haskew

Located in Loveland, CO

Dance Within, Wear Only Sky by Denny Haskew Set of 3, (two with figures, one ring alone) Bronze with Stainless Steel, suspended from ceiling using cable system. Figures dancing in rings, gold and silver representing yin/yang, masculine/feminine, sun/moon female: 20x18x6" ed/21 male: 22x19x8" ed/21 "Just as the ancients danced to call upon the spirits in nature, we too can dance to find the spirits within ourselves that have long been buried and forgotten." - Anna Halprin ABOUT THE ARTIST: Denny Haskew currently resides in Loveland, Colorado where he is actively engaged in the art industry as a sculptor. He received his degree from the University of Utah, then served two years in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Having spent numerous years as a guide and ski instructor, Denny has learned to love the rivers and mountains of the western states of Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, and Utah. After moving to Loveland, a hub of successful working sculptors, he wasted no time in getting monumental sculpture experience through working with renowned sculptors including Fritz White and Kent Ullberg N.A. Since 1987, Denny has created and placed dozens of monumental compositions; spanning the full spectrum of the figurative genre. As a member of the Potawatomi Citizen Nation, it is only natural for his artwork to follow the Native American culture. His art has not been limited to Native American and southwestern subjects, however, as he frequently explores abstract forms placing emphasis on the qualities of the metal and stone used. As a Charter member of the National Sculptors' Guild and being close to other sculptors and the Loveland area foundries has helped him to master all the foundry processes involved in producing a desirable and lasting monumental bronze sculpture. Over 50 major public placements include the Smithsonian Institution, DC.; the Gilcrease Museum, OK; Cerritos, CA; Little Rock, AR; the Shakopee Mdewakanton Dakota Sioux collection, MN, and the Barona Band of Mission Indians...

Modernist Brutalist Hand Forged Iron Menorah Sculpture Israeli Palombo Judaica

By David Palombo

Located in Surfside, FL

Heavy Hand Forged Brutalist Iron Memorial Menorah Sculpture. David Palombo was an Israeli sculptor and painter. He was born in Turkey to a traditional family and immigrated to the Land of Israel with his parents in 1923. They lived in the Nahalat Shiva neighborhood of Jerusalem. In 1940 he began his studies at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, and from 1942 was a student of sculptor Ze’ev Ben-Zvi. For a period of time, Palombo was an assistant at Ben-Zvi’s studio and also taught at Bezalel. During this period he was also a member of the “Histadrut HaNoar HaOved VeHaLomed” (The General Federation of Students and Young Workers in Israel). In the 1940s he took art lessons at night. In 1948 he went to Paris, where he visited the studio of the sculptor Constantin Brancusi whose work influenced him. Around 1958 he married the artist Shulamit Sirota. In 1960 he quit his job to devote himself to art. In 1964 he married for the second time to the artist Yona Palombo. The two of them went to live in an abandoned home on Mount Zion in Jerusalem. His widow opened a museum in their home that was active until the year 2000. Work by Palombo is included in the Judaic collection of the Jewish Museum (a well known Hanukkah menora). Palombo executed the impressive metal gates of the Tent of Remembrance at the Yad Vashem, the memorial to the martyrs of the holocaust, as well as the gates to the Knesset Building the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco award) awarded him a scholarship for study in Japan. He worked in marble, granite, bronze, iron and steel. as well as with glass mosaic tiles. Palombo’s early works, in the 1950s, were influenced by modernist sculptors such as Hans Jean Arp and Brancusi. These works were composed of abstract images from nature and were carved out of stone or wood. At the end of the 1950s he began making metal sculptors, using the technique of welding. His work took on a more abstract and expressive character. Education 1940 Painting with Isidor Ascheim, New Bezalel School for Arts and Crafts, Jerusalem 1942 Sculpture with Zeev Ben Zvi, Jerusalem 1956 Mosaic, Ravenna, Italy 1958 Welding Course Awards And Prizes 1966 UNESCO Award Exhibitions: Sculpture in Israel, 1948-1958 Mishkan Museum of Art, Kibbutz Ein Harod Artists: Zvi Aldouby, Yitzhak Danziger, Arieh Merzer, Dov Feigin, Aaron Priver, David Palumbo, Menashe Kadishman, Kosso Eloul, Yehiel Shemi, Zahara Schatz.
