Resin Abstract Circle Sculpture: 'Circle'

By Kelly Bugden + Van Wifvat

Located in New York, NY

The artistic collaboration of Kelly Bugden + Van Wifvat has produced a thought-provoking body of sculptures, paintings, and constructions. Nature, childhood memories, and everyday archetypes take shape in unexpected combinations of materials. The works emerged as the tactile and visual senses channeled the ritualistic power and materiality of selected artifacts. The resulting objects exist in a space between what they were originally and what they could become. A wheel, for example, is distorted as if seen through a prism. Their collaboration grew out of years of shaping materials into one-of-a-kind objects. Intuitively, the process of creating with their hands took an inward turn. Prism is a travelogue through memories and dreams, yielding abstract forms that capture moments of transformation. Van Wifvat grew up with eight siblings and studied sculpture and environmental design in Minneapolis at MCAD. In 1979, he opened a storefront art gallery to promote the work of local artists. The space featured printed materials—art books, periodicals, fanzines, and postcard’s. Wifvat moved to New York in 1983 to study at the Fashion Institute of Technology and Parsons. In 1987, he co-founded Van Gregory & Norton design studio, specializing in convex mirrors and curtain hardware...

Bird House or Face Vase

Located in Milford, NH

A wonderful example of an abstract ceramic or sculpture in blue, referred to as a bird house or face vase, by Indian / American artist Gerry Williams (1926-2014). Williams was born in India from American parents, and eventually set up a studio and became a longtime resident of Dunbarton, New Hampshire. Williams took his first pottery lessons from master ceramic artist Vivika Heino at the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen in the late 1940s. He became a juried member of the League in 1952. By Fred Klingelhofer

Located in Boston, MA

Artist Commentary: Event 02.2000.015 is a one of an ongoing series of sculptures exploring my envisioning cosmic events and their existence in spacetime. This piece is also an exploration of combining different materials into sculpture. Keywords: abstract, welded metal, Artist Biography: Fred Klingelhofer, a primarily self-taught artist, grew up in a Chicago south side neighborhood. He received a BS degree in physics from Roosevelt University and worked as an engineer for 30 years. During those years he enrolled in art workshops and classes at a nearby community college completing courses in figure drawing, 2D and 3D design, ceramics, sculpting the figure, welding and metal sculpture. Fired to cone 01. Glaze fired to cone 07. Low fire glaze applications. Finished with acrylics and oils. Dimensions: 5.5" x 5.5" x 5" Year: 2018 ARTIST STATEMENT My work passionately reflects my Mexican cultural roots. The art forms appear and are created as stories in the round as I transform and mutate a magic fusion of colors, shapes and a way of life into them. I often use faces joined by zigzag or curved lines. Flower petals characteristically fashion the idea of dealing with one’s aura. Some of the vessel forms I use (the goddess series) are used to symbolically connect earth to women… a container used for nutrients of survival. My work also speaks of healing. Pieces are created to capture great depth of emotion, celebration, suffering, and cultural bonding. Slip cast...
