Untitled, 2014 (Id. 383) (Abstract Drawing) Ballpoint pen and inkjet on paper. Unframed. Caldicott has always had a habit of working serially; his works on paper are rapidly produced and large in quantity. His drawings have a minimal esthetic, an architectural character, created with only one or two lines. Pastel tones, softened colors, and a formal composition generate a feeling of austerity and sophistication. Richard Caldicott is an English artist who explores abstract photography and creates abstract compositions on paper. He lives and works in London. As an interdisciplinary artist, Caldicott comes across materials and techniques, including drawing, photography, and sculpture. His works on paper, made with ballpoint pen and inkjet printing, reveal a bare sophistication whether it be with minimal drawings...

Flotilla, Original Painting

By Jaime Ellsworth

Located in San Francisco, CA

Artist Comments
A minimalist scene of a green boat sailing under moons, a giant flower and infinity-shaped clouds. Artist Jaime Ellsworth says the painting represents sailing off to a land of peace. Rendered in her signature style combining modern and primitive painting elements.

About the Artist
Jaime Ellsworth paints animals. Her career as a cowhand never got off the ground, so she stumbled into art never knowing it would complement her passion for animals so completely. Most subjects are her own, but lately she has expanded out of her corral to include bears and beasts not commonly seen on San Juan Island, in the Pacific Northwest, where she's lived for the last 30 years. She suspects it will be years before she runs out of inspiration or has jeans that aren’t covered with paw prints or paint.

Words that describe this painting: boat, clouds, flower, ship, seascape...

Flat 68.12 (Abstract painting) Lacquer on Aluminum - Unframed As the title indicates, this work stands in the trajectory of Tilman’s interest in architectural space and its correlation with light. The title ‘Flat’ relates to the simple idea of a ‘flat’ painted object. However, in a humorous sense it also makes a relation to a flat, an apartment and henceforth to an architectural description of a certain spatial quality. The series ‘Flat’, started in 2010, consist of hand-painted aluminum planes...

Aquatint copperplate printing on BFK Rives paper 250 g. Edition 14/16. This artwork is sold as a triptych. Each image size is 26 x 26 cm/10.2 x 10.2 inches, full paper is 65 x 50 cm/25,5 x 19,6 inches Pierre Muckensturm added printmaking to his oeuvre since 2010. The engraving and printing process allows him to further explore notions of time and perspective. Muckensturm is inspired by the concepts of calmness, constancy and temporality. His work visually expresses a sense of harmony with time. In his prints, he begins with gestural marks, examining them in detail, transforming them gradually, exploring how they communicate differently as he alters their size, shape, depth, magnitude and orientation over time. Pierre Muckensturm is a French abstract painter and print maker. His visual language is one of harmony, calm and timelessness built around softly textured surfaces and a muted, black and white palette. Born in Strasbourg, France, he currently lives and works in Colmar. In his prints, he begins with gestural marks, examining them in detail, transforming them gradually, exploring how they communicate differently as he alters their size, shape, depth, magnitude, and orientation over time. In 2004, Muckensturm began working with oil on large-scale canvases. He isolates gestural elements, enlarging them on the picture plane to explore their presence in relation to the surrounding emptiness. He develops the paintings methodically, exploring the process of transformation the canvas undergoes in the painting process. Working the surface into a texture that belies its age, Muckensturm achieves a balance of intensity and tranquility. INSPIRATION Muckensturm is inspired by the concepts of calmness, constancy, and temporality. His work visually expresses a sense of harmony with time. Initially a figurative painter, he discovered abstraction in 2004 on a visit to Notre Dame du Haut, a Modernist chapel in Ronchamp, France, designed by Charles-Edouard Jeanneret-Gris, otherwise known as Le Corbusier. The simplicity of its forms brought Muckensturm a feeling of tranquility. He began seeking ways to directly express how felt that day. His search brought him into contact with the work of Julius Bissier, whose simple, organic, gestural brushstrokes, evocative of Taoist painting...

Norma Márquez Orozco, The Sun, 2016, Translucent Paper, 30 x 30, Minimalist

By Norma Marquez Orozco

Located in Darien, CT

Norma Marquez Orozco explores concepts of impermanence, perception, form and balance through physical movement of the work itself in a lucid, game-like context, like puzzles. All the elements are made of paper, molded into three-dimensional forms. The repetitive geometric shapes are assembled inside boxes built out of translucent paper. The arrangement is random and unfixed to allow movement and unpredictable composition. The harmonies and tensions in the work arise from different exchanges between the colors, the patterns, and the geometric and organic shapes, as well as the sense that change is constantly occurring as the elements shift and move. When one looks at these compositions, you see them for the first time, every time, because what is creating and completing the artwork is always changing; such as light, weather and forms merge and interact. As a result of these dynamic relationships, the work extends beyond her personal hand, sustaining an appearance and composition entirely of its own. Norma Márquez Orozco was
