His career skyrocketed in the 1960s after gaining the patronage of the Duchess of Windsor, which established his standing among elite interior designers and high-society clients. Springer became celebrated for reintroducing rare, exotic materials into modern furniture forms—most notably shagreen (stingray skin), lacquered parchment, python, goatskin, Lucite, and heavy polished metalwork.
