Monumental and rare natural giant clam shell Heavily weathered with great natural patina 39" wide shell attached to a custom cast stone base. Base is 19th/early 20th c.

A wonderfully unique vintage resin planter completely covered by hand in an incredible assortment of natural seashells. Created over many years by a passionate Florida shell collector, the planter features hundreds of shells in varying sizes, colors and species, individually applied in dense decorative bands and patterns. Large scallop shells encircle the upper rim while smaller shells create intricate layers throughout, accented by larger conch and spiral shells. Even the lower edge is finished in shellwork there was apparently no such thing as “enough shells.” This is not professionally produced shellwork, and that is very much part of its charm. The piece has the wonderfully personal, collected quality of old Florida folk art...
