Mid 20th C. Kutani Style French Porcelain Lidded Ginger Jars - A Pair
Located in Morristown, NJ
20th c., a pair of Japanese Kutani style porcelain lidded jars, stamped on Porcelaine de Paris underside of foot. The mark indicates the piece was produced in the 1970's. The jars are decorated in deep orange, tangerine and gold motifs on a white background. On one side, both jars have matching decoration depicting a scroll showing a pastoral scene. On the other side, each jar has a seperate floral depiction; one including bamboo. Both are highly decorative. Founded 1773 by Jean-Baptiste Locre, Porcelaine de Paris, was one of the first manufactures to use the Chinese secret of porcelain. It immediately aimed for the luxury trade, selling to the Royal Courts of Europe. After surviving the French Revolution, Porcelaine de Paris steadily produced tableware as well as purely decorative pieces, receiving orders from all over Europe. Productivity was astonishing, creating one new model every day over 30 years! Around 1830, Jean-Marx Clauss, a German-born potter bought a building at Rue de la Pierre-Levee, where he took over Locre's activity. M. Achille Bloch...

Tibetan Flint Striker, C. 1850
Located in Chicago, IL
In 19th-century Tibet, many men carried a fire striker to help ensure survival in the often-harsh climate of the Tibetan Plateau. Known as mechag, such strikers would hang from one's belt and often doubled as a small pouch for flint and tinder. The finest strikers were finished with precious metals and decorated with repoussé and inlaid stones. This leather flint pouch is decorated with silver and gold plated metalwork and three large beads of turquoise and red coral. The mechag hangs from a simple leather strap and three decorative leather beads hang below. The pouch contains two Tibetan prayer flags...

Japanese Green Red Gold Porcelain Vase by Master Artist
Located in Takarazuka, JP
Mesmerizing contemporary Japanese decorative porcelain vase, hand-painted in extremely intricate patterns and extensive use of gold on vibrant green and red on a stunning bottle shaped porcelain body. In 2016, the British Museum added a work by this artist to its collection of contemporary Japanese porcelain, a large lidded jar in the Imari-Arita polychrome enamel tradition. This is a signature masterpiece from an exclusive collection of highly collectible pieces by widely acclaimed master porcelain artist and recipient of numerous awards for his exceptional porcelain work and unique gold and platinum work on porcelain. The artist's profile is available upon request. It features the auspicious Mount Fuji and cherry blossom motif. Since the Edo period (1603-1868) many artists have depicted Mount Fuji in their art, from laquerware and paintings to ukio-e or woodblock print, which was the most popular art form for the middle class in the Edo period.
