Rare Jean Pouyat Limoges France Oval Hand-painted Porcelain Ravier Bowl, 1926

About the Item

Rare Jean Pouyat porcelain ravier plate or serving bowl is hand painted with red poppy flowers on pink background and decorated with elaborate Art Nouveau style gilded trim; wavy, organically shaped rim flows around the bowl with two raised areas on the sides that can be used as handles, creating a graceful, delicate outline. The inside of the bowl is done in lustre finish. The bowl is marked with green " Fair Jan 25th 1926 J.P./L. France" factory mark on the bottom; the mark indicates that the bowl was created specifically for a particular event or occasion. The use of "J.P./L. France" factory mark is typical for pieces made in 1890-1932. In 1911 Pouyat factory merged with Guerin et Cie, creating "Anciens Etablissements J. Pouyat, Willian Guerin, et Cie", and in 1920 the company was taken over by Bawo & Dotter Ltd, creating Guerin, Pouyat, Elite Ltd. Unfortunately, when the factory was closed in 1932, the archives and thousands of models were destroyed. The tray is 4.3" wide, 10.5" deep, and 3" high. It is in excellent antique condition with minimal to no wear, which is unusual for its age.
