19th Century Art Nouveau Bronze Bust Entitled "Bohémienne" by Emmanuel Villanis
Located in London, GB
Captivating late 19th century French bronze bust of a beautiful woman, enhanced by the variegated rich brown patination and excellent tactile surface detail, raised on an integral bronze base with raised title to the fore. Signed ?E Villanis and further raised on a breche griotte stepped and shaped marble plinth ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Height: 33 cm Width: 16 cm Depth: 11 cm Condition: Excellent Original Condition circa: 1890 Materials: Bronze Book Ref: Emmanuel Villanis by Josje Hortulanus-de Mik Page No: 17 SKU: 8616 ABOUT Puccini's Opera - La Bohème SYNOPSIS - A group of friends are living a Bohemian life in Paris and trying to make their livings creating art. Rodolfo, the writer, falls in love with the seamstress, Mimi, while Marcello, the painter, and Musetta, the singer, are the on-and-off-again couple by their sides. When the four are happy, they spend their time celebrating life and love. However, Mimi is revealed to be very ill, and Rodolfo struggles to come to terms with the fact that she will inevitably die. Rodolfo and Mimi break up, and months later, Musetta discovers Mimi extremely sick and close to death. She brings Mimi to Rodolfo and Marcello's apartment. Rodolfo immediately takes her in and tries to nurse her back to health, but he is too late. Almost as soon as the two are reunited and have professed their love for one another, Mimi succumbs to her illness and dies. Emmanuel Villanis Emmanuel Villanis was an industrious man. He is believed to have created some 200 to 250 pieces. His oeuvre pre-eminently consisted of busts and full body statues. Most of these were manufactured in bronze, but there are also models in white metal and terra cotta. Different patinas were used. The bronzes were mainly cast by the Societé de Bronzes de Paris and can be recognised by the round stamp...

Bronze Statue Elephant and Her Calf by American Sculptor Dan Ostermiller
By Dan Ostermiller
Located in Rochester, NY
Poignant bronze sculpture of nurturing mother elephant and her calf. Rich brown patina with hints of verdigris. By American sculptor Dan Ostermiller. Signed and dated 1992. Casting number 14 out of 30. Mounted on marble and wood base. One of America's foremost wildlife sculptors, Dan Ostermiller works in a realist style and is admired for his extensive knowledge of animal anatomy, high level of craftsmanship, and compassionate treatment of his subjects. He is committed to studying animals in their own environments and strives to put character into his pieces. His is a fluid style that conveys grace of motion, and he quite often works on fifteen to twenty pieces at a time. Ostermiller has also taught animal anatomy and the animal characteristics around the world. Ostermiller was raised in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and his father, Ron, was a highly respected taxidermist. As a result, Ostermiller was working with clay at an early age. As a teenager, he became his father's assistant and learned the basic skills of making an animal look life-like, from facial expressions to body language. Breaking away from taxidermy because he wanted to be more creative, Ostermiller spent time in Texas as a hunting guide, and worked on sculpting, moving to Loveland, Colorado to be close to foundries. During this period he was estranged from his father, who was exceedingly bitter about his son's decision not to become a taxidermist. The two united in the late 1980's when the father was dying of cancer. Ron Ostermiller lived long enough to see his son honored for his accomplishments, including the 1987 recognition by the Wyoming governor at the dedication of his monumental sculpture at the state capital. By the late 1990's, Ostermiller had created nearly 250 different pieces of sculpture. He had made several trips to Africa, accompanying hunters to Rhodesia, but lost his interest in hunting animals for any purpose other than photography. He has great feeling for his subjects, and no desire to harm them. Ostermiller works from a large studio complex in Loveland, Colorado where he is surrounded by a park of his sculpture, a stream, waterfall, and grounds with wild birds. In addition to sculpting, he enjoys hiking, gourmet cooking, and collecting cars...

Roland Paris Bronze Art Deco The Clown
Located in NANTES, FR
Art Deco bronze with green and brown patina around 1930. Bronze clown on Portor marble base. Signed Roland Paris on the embankment. Notes of micro scratches on the marble. Total height: 53cm Base: 13cm x 46.5cm Weight: 16 Kg Friedrich Richard Roland Paris (March 18, 1894 in Vienna, Austria-Hungary - May 4, 1945 in Swinemünde, Germany) was a German caricaturist, writer of satirical verse, graphic designer, painter and Art Deco sculptor. Roland Paris attended the Grand-Ducal Realgymnasium in Weimar from 1905. From 1909, he was a student at the Saxon Grand-Ducal School of Applied Arts in Weimar. Here, in 1912, he received second and third prizes as well as 25 points in a competition for the design of emblems for student associations, which he continued to produce for two or three years. Some of these works showed the influence of Art Nouveau, others included more modern approaches. In 1912, Paris took a course in sculpture at the Saxon Grand-Ducal School of Art in Weimar with the sculptor Gottlieb Elster. He then went to Munich, where he completed internships with several sculptors. In 1913, he returned to the school of Fine arts in Weimar and studied painting with Walther Klemm. In June 1915 he received his call up order for the Eastern Front of World War I and served first in a commando unit and then in the Air Force Inspectorate (IdFlieg) . After his return in 1919, he settled in Berlin. In 1924 he married Elisabeth Lisl Austen (b. 1897), a dancer at the Théâtre des Westens who modeled most of his female characters; he depicted himself for the facial parts of his male characters. The marriage remained childless. Their shared one-bedroom apartment in the backyard of Xantener Strasse 11 in Berlin-Wilmersdorf was also the Paris Studio, where he designed and made many of his sculptures, as well as graphics and paintings...
