An unusually large Vietnamese celadon glazed stoneware bowl with carved lotus petal design, Ly or Tran Dynasty, 13th - 14th century, Vietnam.
The large bowl or offering vessel of generous proportions, rising on a short, unglazed foot ring, revealing the reddish buff stoneware body. The globular body elegantly tapered. The lower section deeply carved with a traditional stylized lotus petal design, a band of incised lines above. The upper section of the vessel ribbed, and carved with long, elegant lotus petals that taper upwards, terminating in rounded ends. Another band of incised lines circumscribe the mouth.
The vessel glazed in a wonderful olive celadon glaze. The glaze stopping neatly at the mouth rim. The transparent celadon glaze thinning slightly along the raised sections, and pooling in the recesses, adding additional depth and texture. The celadon with wonderful yellow undertones, giving an overall olive hue.

A massive stoneware tsubo floor jar created by Japanese contemporary ceramic artist Kai Tsujimura (1976-). The heavy jar with its impressive volume was made in the tradition of Iga ware with local coarse sandy clay that turned reddish after the firing. It took its shape from heavy medieval storage jars with a wide-open mouth. For a nearly identical form, see an Echizen jar from Heian period (794–1185) in the collection of MET (Accession Number: 1977.261). The surface showcases scattered white crystalized feldspars and a green vitrified ash glaze cascade down the body (known as biidoro in Japanese - after the Portuguese word for glass vidoro). These is a globular shape impressed on the jar. In 1922, the date of the formal establishment of the company, Vilotte is the manager. From its inception, the style is clearly defined. A classical orientation, strongly imbued with the antique style and taking advantage of the neo-Greek wave. The characteristics of Art Deco are a source of inspiration as well as the regional style is an influence. The goal is clear: to offer high quality and decorative items whose forms are inherited from the ancient or traditional Basque containers. The sandstone reflects this enthusiasm for this growing area since the late 19th century.
In 1945, Rudolf Fischer bought the pottery on which it imposes its trademark in 1951 - RF CIBOURE - to replace the old - VE CIBOURE -. It will be replaced later by that of his son Max Fischer - MF CIBOURE -. He brings technical and artistic changes such as molding, baking more oxidizing and parts production utilities. This pottery owes its success, in addition to the decorative qualities and originality of its production, to an excellent marketing, particularly among Parisian department stores.
