VERY FINE PAIR OF ENGLISH SILVERPLATED COBALT GLASS CHESTNUT URNS Marked for Barker-Ellis of Birmingham, England made circa 1912-1931 with maker's mark to underside [seven-branch menorah], signed "England" and impressed "8" along with silversmith's scratched notations Item # 312DPP11Z An exceedingly fine pair of chestnut or candy urns by the renowned silversmithing firm Barker-Ellis of Birmingham, England, the menorah marker's mark was reportedly used by Barker-Ellis starting in 1912 and continued to be in use by the firm through 1931 [see the Smithsonian Museum of American History, acc. no. 1988.0569.07 for a tray of the same marking and documented dates of use]. The present version of the menorah mark is an earlier version of the marking and probably places the pair of urns to circa 1920. The urns feature a carved pineapple finial with exquisitely chiseled and chased leaves over a coved lid, this lifting off to reveal a spacious interior with removable hand-blown cobalt glass...

An exceptional, fine and impressive pair of versatile antique English sterling silver three-light candelabra; an addition to our diverse candle holders collection. These exceptional antique cast sterling silver candelabra have a classical square form to a knopped column onto a stepped swept square foot, in the highly desirable classic English style. Each impressive three light candelabrum retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit scrolling leaf decorated arms. The branches (labra) support two circular waisted capitals, each encompassed with bands of applied gadroon decoration. The capitals are fitted with the original hallmarked push fit square-shaped sconces, embellished with an undulating swept decoration. Each capital of these antique candelabra centrepieces surmounts an impressive square drip pan, featuring identical ornamentation to that of the sconces. Each Victorian candelabrum is fitted with a third detachable central elevated capital and drip pan. These versatile three-light Victorian candelabra can be used as silver candlesticks once the arms are detached. The panelled waisted column of each candlestick is encompassed with further undulating ornamentation and gadroon decoration to the knops. The spiralling swept portion of the foot surmounts a plain stepped base, embellished with gadroon decoration to a plain collet style rim. These antique silver candlesticks do not have weighted bases. The base of each candlestick was made by William Brown in 1825 and the labra were crafted by Walker & Tolhurst Ltd (Walter Walker & Brownfield Tolhurst) in 1896*. These tall sterling silver candelabra, which can be separated into individual candlesticks, are a versatile and sophisticated gift for weddings, anniversaries or milestone occasions. Use them as dramatic centrepieces for candlelit dinners or display the candlesticks individually on a mantel, sideboard or table. * Candlesticks were widely produced and used in the early 19th century, with designs growing more elaborate as moulded candles gained popularity. To accommodate changing tastes, it was not unusual for matching candelabra to be commissioned at a later date, providing versatility and reflecting the Victorian preference for elaborate centrepieces. Sir George James Frampton (British, 1860-1928) A Patinated Bronze Statue Of Peter Pan Depicted playing the pipes and conducting with his right hand. Standing on a naturalistically cast base. Signed 'G F' in a monogram and 'P P' in a roundel. Dated 1913. England, Dated 1913. Provenance: Gerald Rufus Isaacs, 2nd Marquess of Reading (1889 –1960) and Eva Violet Mond Isaacs, Second Marchioness of Reading (1895–1973). Thence by descent until sold in 1996. The present charming statuette of Peter Pan, dated 1913, is an exceptionally fine and early reduction of the life-size bronze exhibited by Frampton at the Royal Academy in 1911. Barrie unveiled the statue in Kensington Gardens on 30 April 1912, without fanfare and without permission, so that it might appear to children that the fairies had put it in place overnight. He published a notice in The Times newspaper the following day, 1 May: "There is a surprise in store for the children who go to Kensington Gardens to feed the ducks in the Serpentine this morning. Down by the little bay on the south-western side of the tail of the Serpentine they will find a May-day gift by Mr J.M. Barrie, a figure of Peter Pan blowing his pipe on the stump of a tree, with fairies and mice and squirrels all around. It is the work of Sir George Frampton...

A magnificent, exceptional, fine and impressive, pair of large antique Georgian English sterling silver architectural column candlesticks; part of our ornamental silverware collection. These magnificent antique Georgian English sterling silver candlesticks have a plain subtly tapering columnar form. The large and impressive Corinthian capital of each candlestick retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit sconce ornamented with a plain moulded rim. The cylindrical columns are supported by a cuboid plinth to an impressive plain square stepped three tier base. Each plinth is embellished with a fine and impressive bright cut engraved coat of arms depicting the Head family coat of arms encircled with a belt accented with the family motto 'Study Quiet'. The bases retain the original contemporary engraved inscription 'A token of respect from Francis Head to her aunt Dame Mary Ann Head. 1803' to the lowest tier. Both candlesticks are fitted with turned mahogany bases to the underside. These magnificent Georgian candlesticks were crafted by George Eadon, George Kibbles & John Weaver of George Eadon & Co.
