An elegant and high quality Belgian mid 19th century Louis XVI st. ormolu and Sarrancolin marble statue signed Charles Samuel 1894 and Petermann Fondeur Bruxelles. The statue is raised by a beautiful stepped mottled Sarrancolin marble base with finely sculpted block feet. The striking ormolu statue above depicts a beautiful maiden draped in a wonderfully executed flowing garment with her hair tied in an updo while holding a cornucopia overflowing with coins in her arms symbolizing abundance and prosperity. She is standing on a wheel amidst three cherubs on a wonderfully executed ground like design. All original gilt throughout. Charles Samuel (1862, in Brussels – 1939, in Cannes) was a Belgian sculptor. Samuel was born in Brussels and trained there. He studied sculpture with Eugène Simonis, Joseph Jaquet and Charles van der Stappen, and medal-making with the goldsmith and sculptor Philippe Wolfers...
