A beautiful set of five blue and white Delft vases, this faience collection was hand-painted in Holland, circa 1900. The three bulbous vases are lidded, each with a finial depicting a rampant lion with a ball in its forepaws. Beneath the lion is a mottled background (on the front side only), with a foliate and floral margent. Each vase has the same scene painted on the front of the main body: a couple walking through a field surrounded by flowers. The opposite side has a floral rinceaux above a foliate branch. Painted in a similar fashion, the two concave vases are without lids. The side opposite from the cartouche of the couple has floral margents. All five vases have canted corners on the base.

A Very Fine and Impressive Bohemian 19th Century Vienna-Style Neoclassical Revival Style Pirkenhammer Porcelain Vase - Urn. The ovoid shaped finely painted all around body with allegorical scenes representing 'The Search for Love', with one side depicting a pensive maiden seated on a rock form by the seashore, the opposite side depicting a maiden, also seated by the seashore, being visited by a love-cupid (cherub or angel), flanked by a pair of finely detailed double-headed snake-form 24 carat gilt handles centered with mask terminals, raised on an attached circular gilt, cream and blue Celeste decorated plinth. Stamped with an underglaze black printed crossed hammers mark and further mark "O.P.C.N. / RAD" to the underside. The associated and later domed cobalt-blue, cream and gilt decorated porcelain cover-lid with a cream and gilt bud finial, not original to the vase. Signed "Al Eckardt". Circa: Bohemia, 1890-1894.
The porcelain painter A. Louis Eckardt is mentioned by Waltraud Neuwirth, Porzellanmaler-Lexicon (1977), Vol. I, p.251 as working from the Prager Strasse in Dresden in 1894. The Bohemian Pirkenhammer factory was founded in 1803, and in the second half of the 19th century the factory was exporting to Vienna and London. The Prikenhammer marks on these vases show they were made after 1887, and it is therefore likely this vase can be dated between the time of the introduction of the mark for this Bohemian factory, and the time Eckhardt returned to Dresden in 1894. Exquisite Japanese Contemporary porcelain beckoning cat, a uniquely and intricately gilded and hand painted porcelain sculpture from the Kutani region of Japan. The cat raising his left paw is adorned with multiple golden medallions and is covered with raised loops characteristic of the Kutani “mori” style. While the origins of the Japanese beckoning cat are unclear, contemporary woodblock prints show they were being widely sold as good luck charms by the 1850s. The beckoning cat comes in two varieties. The more common right-handed beckoning cat (with right paw raised) is said to bring money and wealth to its owner, and are to this day frequently seen in shops and restaurants in Japan. The less common left-handed cat is said to be inviting friends and acquaintances to hearth and home.
The “mori” style refers to raised loops and other decorative motifs applied by squeezing a tube of slip onto the body of the cat much like applying frosting to a cake.
The cat boasts the traditional Kutani colors of bright green, red and yellow presented against an dark blue background, and is generously accentuated with gold. The red kerchief with a knotted amulet in the back and two bells on the side also identify this as a traditional Kutani piece, as do the perked ears turned outward.
