Pair Chinese Porcelain Foo Dog Covered Jars, mid 20th Century, China

About the Item

A delightful pair of Chinese famille verte enameled porcelain covered jars with foo lions, circa 1960's, China. The jars of baluster form and painted in bold and bright famille verte enamels of primarily green and red, with areas of puce and gray. The jars are painted with a bold and dense scrolling foliate design in green enamel against a white porcelain ground, with large peony blossoms in red enamel and scattered smaller blossoms, also in red enamel. Three charming foo lions or foo dogs scamper around the body of each jar, one green, one puce, and one gray. The covers of dome shape with wide brims. Each cover with a sculpted foo dog finial. The foo dogs seated upright and alert, a large ball under one paw. The domes decorated in the same manner as the jars. The brims decorated with a scrolling floral and foliate design of green enamel and puce gray for the blossoms. The undersides unmarked.
