This fantastic faience jardiniere and pedestal were hand-painted in Boulogne, France (formally “Boulogne-sur-Mer”) in the late 1800’s. The vibrant set features heraldic displays set among foliate and floral illustrations. Both the pedestal and the jardiniere have white backgrounds festooned with green leaves and blue, yellow, orange, and purple flowers. The opening of the jardiniere has asymmetrical edges dotted by small piercings, with flowering vines painted along the inner rim. Exquisite handles, comprised of curled leaves and C-scrolls, are affixed to the sides of the lobed body. Numerous painted motifs grace the area between the handles, including drapery, scrolls, and floral baskets hanging from an arabesque border. Equally impressive décor can be seen on the tetrapartite stand with a molded top. Each layer of the molding has a different color scheme, ranging from yellow with volute embellishments to solid green. The neck of the stand has been adorned with floral displays above multi-colored scrolls, shells, and scalloped leaves. In the center of each scalloped leaf is a distinct heraldic shield: on one side is a French style shield representing the city of Boulogne, with a swan that symbolizes perfection. On the opposite side is coat of arms topped by a closed crown, emblazoned with a five-fold cross over three roundels, which is the coat of arms for Godfrey of Bouillon, the first ruler of Jerusalem, who was born in Boulogne. Beneath the coat of arms are a pair of scrolled feet adorned with scalloped leaves and scrolls. There are two more feet to the sides that have pierced elements with floral vines beneath. Vintage or antique pair of ceramic multi spout tulipiere vases features Art Deco style form with one larger central spout, surrounded by 4 shorter and smaller spouts and mounted on flattened rounded body with columnar stepped foot. The vases are decorated in striking drip glaze, reminiscent of modernist Western European art pottery pieces of the period; buttery yellow, caramel brown, turquoise blue, celadon green, cobalt blue, and dark brown colors flow over the vases' surfaces, creating an organic, modern, almost impressionistic composition. The vases are marked with the hand-written matching model/decor numbers, studio logo, and FRANCE on the bottoms; one of the vases still has the remnants of the paper sticker attached. Delcourt sold his artistic, high-end pieces through the studios at department stores, such as Primavera at Au Printemps and La Maîtrise at Galeries Lafayette, as well as other upscale stores in France, but we were unable to identify which store the sticker belongs to. Sculptural, decorative set with elegant form, bold, artistic glaze, and exceptional craftsmanship will make a great gift to a collector or design enthusiast and a perfect addition to a wide range of interiors, from Traditional to Art Deco, Eclectic, Art Nouveau, Arts and Crafts, Organic Modern, Mid Century Moden, Collected, or Contemporary. Henry Delcourt pottery was founded in 1903 by Jules Verlingue; in 1913 Verlingue partnered with Henri Delcourt, and in 1914 - acquired the HB Quimper pottery. Another chance in ownership happened around 1918, when the Manufacture de la Grande Maison HB, J. Verlingue and Co. was divided; Verlingue sold his shares in the company of Boulogne-sur-Mer to Delcourt, receiving Delcourt's shares of Quimper in return. The previous ties to Quimper pottery help to explain some stylistic similarities between the souvenir and tourist-oriented pieces, made by Delcourt pottery, and those of HB Quimper, but Delcourt's high-end, modern, more unique art pottery and ceramic pieces appear to be independent from the Quimper influence. In late 1910s and early 1920s Henry Delcourt, a sole owner of the studio at that time, become one of the biggest names in French Art Deco ceramic and porcelain, with close ties to artists such as Jacques Adnet, Louis Sue, and Sibylle May...

This elegant pair of antique French faience vases was crafted in Lille circa 1850 and reflects the romantic revival of northern France’s celebrated ceramic tradition. Each vessel features a softly waisted baluster form with a gently flared rim and rounded shoulder, raised on a green-glazed circular foot. At 11 inches high, their proportions are more consistent with decorative vases than cachepots, giving them a graceful vertical presence ideal for display. The bodies are richly hand-painted with continuous pastoral and maritime scenes, including fishermen along the shoreline, figures gathered near rustic architecture, and sailing vessels moving across tranquil waters. The landscapes are rendered in soft, atmospheric tones with delicate perspective and careful brushwork, framed by scattered floral bouquets and a warm yellow band beneath the rim adorned with stylized roses and leafy garlands. The painterly treatment and romantic subject matter are characteristic of mid-19th century French revival faience.
