Silver Platters and Serveware

This very elaborate and well executed silver plated serving tray is unsigned, but presumed to have originated from the United States, possibly by Meridian, and dating to approximately 1890 and done in the period Aesthetic Movement style. The tray is is quite heavy for its size and heavily plated, and has a unique fortress shape with flanged sides with ornately cast scrolling leaf decoration. The surface of the tray is engraved with a vignette of tall ships which is framed in an elaborate scrolling leaf and foliage motif. The figural handles depict a reclining woman, beckoning to the ships from the shoreline. This tray is in very good period condition and a very good example of Aesthetic Movement plated...

A magnificent, fine and impressive antique Indian Colonial silver salver by George Gordon & Co - boxed; part of our antique salver collection. This magnificent antique Indian Colonial silver salver has a circular shaped form onto three bracket style feet. The surface of this antique silver salver is embellished with a broad, flat engraved floral, scrolling leaf and opposing scroll decorated border. The decoration to the surface incorporates a central contemporary engraved presentation inscription 'Presented to Capt H.A. Thompson 50th Reg M.N.P. By Colonel Green and his Brother Officers, in acknowledgement of his unremitted EXERTOONS as Mess Secretary for a period of nearly six years during the whole of which times his Conciliatory and Obliging demeanours have so essentially contributed to the HARMONY and well being of the Regimental Mess, December 1842'. The rim of this magnificent sterling silver salver is embellished with a fine and impressive fruiting vine decorated border, accented with large leaf designs and grape clusters. The salver is supported by three cast scroll decorated bracket style feet. This magnificent salver is fitted to the original hinged oak wood presentation box, with a satin and velvet lined interior. The exterior surface of the box is fitted with brass mounts, in addition to a vacant cartouche to the cover; the mounts are a fine feature and indicate the high quality of the piece. This boxed Indian silver salver embodies fine craftsmanship and rich cultural heritage, making it an exceptional gift for weddings, anniversaries, retirements or corporate presentations. At home, it lends refinement and a sense of tradition when displayed on a sideboard, dining table or within a cabinet. Condition This antique silver salver is a superior gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The flat engraved and engraved decoration is all very crisp. The original presentation box shows some indications of wear, in keeping with age. The Indian maker's mark struck to the underside of the salver is very clear. Hallmarked in Sheffield in 1917 by Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co., this very attractive, Antique Sterling Silver Tray, is in the gallery style, featuring a pierced border, wonderful engraved decoration to the centre, and standing on 8 feet. The tray measures 3.25"(8.5cm) tall, by 23"(58.5cm) wide, by 17.5"(44.5cm) deep, and weighs an impressive 141.6 troy ounces.

Antique Arabesque steel plate with gold and silver inlay. Continental, 19th century Dimensions: Height 2cm, diameter 32.5cm Beautifully crafted from steel with gold and silver damascening, this fine 19th century plate is profusely decorated with scrolling arabesque detailing. Around the rim of the plate, scrolling foliate vines and flowers are interspersed with four grotesque masks. The centre is similarly decorated, with intertwining scrolls, acanthus leaves, dolphin heads, and swans. There are also two coats of arms to the centre, which feature crowns and gold bows above. On one of the shields, the top half features a bird with its wings spread wide, with a church building to the bottom half. The other has an angel figure to the left and a double headed eagle to the right. The joining of two coats of arms in this manner often symbolizes the joining of two noble families in marriage, so the present plate could have been produced in celebration of a noble wedding.
