Coalport John Rose Pearlware Dessert Service, Orange with Silver Vines, ca 1800
Located in London, GB
This is a stunning and extremely rare dessert service made by John Rose at Coalport probably around the year 1800, shortly after Rose bought up the Caughley factory. It consists of a large centre piece comport, one sauce tureen with cover, two oval dishes, two square dishes, two shell dishes, and eight plates. The service is beautifully decorated in the Neoclassical style. Coalport was one of the leading potters in 19th and 20th Century Staffordshire. They worked alongside other great potters such as Spode, Davenport and Minton, and came out with many innovative designs. When we say "Coalport" we usually think of the one Coalport factory that became famous, but in its beginning years there were two factories, one run by John Rose and the other by his brother Thomas Rose. Thomas Rose went into partnership with Robert Anstice and Robert Horton and they were located directly opposite John Rose, across the canal. John Rose had bought up the local Caughley factory in 1799. The brothers' factories had much in common with each other and they shared many different shapes and patterns. Ultimately, the John Rose factory proved more profitable and John Rose bought Thomas' factory in 1814, making it the one Coalport factory that became so famous. Many of the Coalport items, of either factory, are now collectors' items. This service is made of pearlware, which leads us to believe that it might have been made at the old Caughley premises, which had kilns for pearlware - the later Coalport items are not known to be made of pearlware but the shape of the dishes and the sauce comport are clearly a Coalport shape. All items have a beautiful deep orange ground - they were done in different firings as the colour is not entirely consistent, which makes the service very charming. The rims are set off with a beautiful vine pattern in silver, which makes the service even more rare as this was not done often. The items are unmarked, as is usual for that era, except the odd "B", which is probably the gilder's tally mark. CONDITION REPORT The service is in good usable condition with some minor flaws: there is some crazing and wear throughout, which is to be expected of pearlware of this era. The centre piece comport has a slight crack through the side, which is not very visible. One of the plates has a chip on the front of the rim as well as three lines coming off the rim; one has a chip on the underside of the rim; and one has a line coming off the rim. Neither of these stand out and the plates are entirely stable. Antique British china...

Le Tallec Set of 4 Demitasse Cups and Matching Tray with Profuse Raised Gilding
Located in Boston, MA
This is an exquisite Le Tallec set that includes four demitasse cups and saucers with a tray with a matching pattern. All the cups and saucers and the tray are embellished in raised profuse gilding with curves and scrolls in a rococo style. The tray is 13.5 inches in diameter. This demitasse set is very rare and would be a wonderful addition to any coffee lover or demitasse collector. Price of Le Tallec set-$1500.00. Camille Le Tallec was born in Paris in 1906. In 1929, he graduated from the Ecole du Louvre. In 1930, he opened his studio in Belleville, Paris, which became the Atelier Le Tallec. Sèvres Set of 6 Porcelain Plates from the Royal Hunting Service, 1847
Located in London, GB
On offer is a spectacular set of 6 plates made by Sèvres in 1847. These plates form part of the "Royal Hunting Service", a massive service commissioned by King Louis Philippe at the château de Fontainebleau in 1846 for use after large hunting parties. Sèvres porcelain is among the most famous in the world. The French factory started in the 1740s in Vincennes, to be moved to Sèvres in the 1750 under the protection of Madame de Pompadour, the chief mistress of Louise XV and great benefactor to French art and culture. The plates have a band of fabulous hunting scenes full of animals and meandering foliage and trailing branches, a gilt geometric pattern on the inside to the centre of each item, which has a rich gilt pattern surrounding a star. There are small reserves of iron red medaillons of trophies. The animals portrayed are fantastic dogs, boars, birds of pray, snakes, pheasants and deer, some hunting each other, others running by themselves. The decoration has very rich autumnal colours. As King Louis Philippe had to abdicate and flee France in 1847, it is likely that the service was sold off like so many other French treasures of the time. Today many parts pop up elsewhere in the world. The items are marked with the red Fontainebleau mark, inscribed Sèvres marks with the month and year of production, and blue and green Sèvres...

H & R Daniel Porcelain Teacup, Apple Green with Pink Roses, Rococo Revival C1840
Located in London, GB
This is a rare and beautiful teacup and saucer made by H&R Daniel in about 1840. The set is potted in the "Sutherland" shape and is decorated in an apple green ground with a pink rose in both the cup and the saucer. The H & R Daniel porcelain factory was founded by Henry Daniel, son of a family of master colour makers. He headed up the decoration department in the famous Spode factory where he oversaw all the beautiful early Spode decorations. In 1822 he opened his own factory with his son Richard, creating a truly iconic body of work with the most subtle colours and beautifully painted flowers and landscapes.  The Daniel factory was the last true cottage industry among the English porcelain factories, resisting the increase of industrialisation and mass production. This resulted in extraordinary and unrivalled quality, but it probably also led to the factory having to close its doors in 1846 because it could no longer compete with others who did modernise. Daniel porcelain can be hard to identify as the factory was only around for about two decades, but this short duration and the low output also means that Daniel items have become true collectors' items. This set is potted in the "Sutherland" shape, which was used between 1840 and 1844. The shape is a graceful but rather restrained Rococo Revival style with a generous bell shaped cup. The set is decorated in a very beautiful apple green ground colour with light gilding and beige rim designs, and both pieces have a beautiful hand painted rose in the centre.  The set is unmarked except the faded pattern number 7874, which points to a date of about 1840. CONDITION REPORT The set is in excellent antique condition without any damage, repairs or crazing, and just some very rubbing as visible in the pictures, mostly on the outside of the cup. Antique British porcelain...
