An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Victorian English sterling silver six piece bachelor tea and coffee service; an addition to our silver teaware collection This exceptional antique Victorian six piece sterling silver tea service / set consists of a spirit kettle, teapot, coffee pot, cream jug, sugar bowl and tea caddy. The pieces of this antique tea and coffee set have a circular baluster shaped form. The teapot and coffee pot are fitted with the original hallmarked cast sterling silver handles, embellished with chased ornamentation and plain scrolling thumbpieces. The spirit kettle is fitted with a large scrolling cast sterling silver handle, ornamented with scrolling leaf designs and impressive scrolling sockets. The fine and impressive kettle is supported on the original cast hallmarked detachable three-legged stand fitted with a locking pin and security chain. The stand is ornamented with further chased patterns, accented with scrolling leaf leg brackets to three tapering, scrolling legs and leaf decorated feet. The detachable hallmarked spirit burner is plain and unembellished, with an applied border. The spirit kettle, coffee pot and teapot have cast sterling silver swan necked spouts, each ornamented with panels of scrolling leaf and floral decoration to either side. The cream jug and sugar bowl are fitted with sterling silver C shaped handles, reflecting the design of those to the teapot and coffee pot. The tea caddy, cream jug and sugar bowl retain the original gilt interiors. Assembled Set of 4 English Porcelain Teacups 1840 & 1930
Assembled Set of 4 English Porcelain Teacups 1840 & 1930

Assembled Set of 4 English Porcelain Teacups 1840 & 1930

By Minton, Royal Albert

Located in London, GB

Assembled Set of 4 English Porcelain Teacups Documenting the Century-Long Design Cycle of Historicist Replication of manufacture. An intellectually engaging and highly visual assembled estate set of four (4) original English fine bone china teacups, offering a stunning realization of how historicist design cycles operate across centuries. Each piece is bound by a shared, elegant Neo-Classical revival motif, featuring a vibrant, hand-painted mint-green laurel leaf garland running along the interior rim, paired with stylized yellow marigolds expertly detailed in textured overglaze enamels on the exterior walls. This curated lot moves beyond mere functionality, serving as a striking physical manifestation of the fashionable replication cycle within British ceramic history. It captures the exact moment where early 20th-century luxury potteries consciously looked backward to recreate the ultimate successes of the 19th century, creating an incredible layered narrative of family preservation and design evolution: Two (2) Early Victorian Originators (circa 1840): True 19th-century antique examples, completely free of factory marks but featuring characteristic unglazed foot rings, period kiln ring aging, and hand-painted iron-red pattern markings. These are highly collected early porcelain bodies likely produced by Minton or Ridgway. Two (2) Art Deco Reproductions (circa 1930): Produced nearly a century later by Thomas C. Wild & Co. under the prestigious Royal Albert Crown China marquee. These pieces serve as a physical testament to the enduring appeal of the original design, manufactured as exact historical reproductions to supplement and preserve the legacy of the original 1840s family heirloom set. They bear the official printed green crown factory back stamp with the founding partner's initials ("T.C.W."). All four cups are finished with ornate, gold-gilt multi-scroll double handles. Boasting a gentle, beautifully matched vintage fading and a soft historical patina to the gilding, this set provides an immediate luxury conversation prompt for interior designers and curators. It is highly sought after for upscale afternoon tea services or curated kitchen hutch styling. Creator: Royal Albert & Attributed to Minton / Ridgway (Staffordshire, England) Pattern Number: 5016Date of Manufacture: Circa 1840 & Circa 1930 Materials: Fine Bone China, Hand-Applied Overglaze Enamels, Gold Leaf In the ceramics world, bone china is a premium, specialized branch of the porcelain family tree that contains animal bone ash. Because of this, your four cups are divided into two distinct historical porcelain categories: The 2 Royal Albert Cups (Top Row): These are Fine Bone China. They are made from a 20th-century refined porcelain paste containing over 30% bone ash. This formula gives them a highly uniform, brilliant white transparency and a lightweight feel. The 2 Early Victorian Cups (Bottom Row): These are Early English Soft-Paste Porcelain or early bone china blends. In the 1840s, British potteries like Minton and Ridgway were still using traditional, thicker porcelain clays. This older formula is more substantial, slightly creamier in base color, and shows circular gray kiln marks on the bottom from being fired on primitive ceramic stands. Quantity: Assembled Set of 4 Cups Condition: Very good antique/vintage condition. The porcelain bodies remain structurally sound across the entire set with no chips, cracks, or hairline fractures. The surfaces exhibit an attractive, light historical fading to the pattern and gentle age-appropriate wear to the gilt accents, underscoring their multi-generational character. 1. The Dynamic Weight Pairing The Royal Albert Cups: Weigh 109g and 95g. The Minton Cups...
