Pair of Meissen style porcelain and ebonised wood mirrored wall brackets German, late 19th Century Height 88cm, width 36/40cm, depth 19cm This superb pair of wall brackets are a masterclass in the Meissen design style. The mirror of each bracket is mounted on an ebonised wood backing, which is surrounded by a porcelain C-scroll surround encrusted with floral decoration. Featuring delicate scrolling motifs, the edge decoration includes both painted floral patterns and moulded floral assemblages, all in a vibrant colour scheme which stands out against the pure white porcelain base. Two expertly crafted birds perch at the corners of each bracket, carefully painted to mimic their real-life counterparts. The very top and very base of each bracket culminates in a playful putto, who represents one of the four seasons. Below the mirrored section of each bracket is a semi-circular wooden top, which sits on top of a basket-shaped porcelain support. Hand carved and gilt, French style large mirror frame, pair available.

Italian 18th century Rococo archtop painted and gilded mirror. The frame is decorated with gold leaf c-scroll leaves and urns with a shell sculpted and carved molding. It has marbleized painted inlay with muted colors of blue, green, and gray with wine veining creating a marble effect. The mirror is richly decorated with carved wood elements and a coordinating trim. These frame the central shelf corner of the carved urns which signify the possible use of an over mantel for a large room with high ceilings. The mirror has the original mercury mirror and is distressed due to age. The back of the mirror is also original. This mirror was created in Italy during the Rococo era of the 18th century. Rococo style is characterized by elaborate ornamentation, asymmetrical values, and curved or serpentine lines as reflected in this mirror. This is a superb pair of antique Italian Florentine giltwood mirrors, circa 1870 in date. The oval mirrors plates are set within a Rococo boldly-carved scrolling acanthus frame, and they retain the original gilding. Florentine style refers to the art and architecture coming out of Florence, Italy during the Renaissance period. Florentine furniture is characterized by the heavy use of gold gilding on wood and very elaborate hand carved decoration. Italian architects of the late Baroque/early Rococo were wooed to Catholic (Southern) Germany, Bohemia and Austria by local princes, bishops and prince-bishops. Inspired by their example, regional families of Central European builders went further, creating churches and palaces that took the local German Baroque style to the greatest heights of Rococo elaboration and sensation. An exotic but in some ways more formal type of Rococo appeared in France where Louis XIV's succession brought a change in the court artists and general artistic fashion. By the end of the king's long reign, rich Baroque designs were giving way to lighter elements with more curves and natural patterns.
