A Polynesian ironwood Gata waka or war club Fiji, probably 18th century or earlier Measures: Height. 97 cm Including museum-quality powder-coated stand. Provenance: Private collection, France Polynesian culture is traditionally a culture of power and prestige, and there was a fine line between battle and ceremony. Warrior people par excellence, the Fijians had at their disposal a large panoply of weapons, each for a specific use. The elegant Gata are called gun-sticks by Europeans due to the recognizable form. However, they are designed after a snake, gata in Fijian language. The Ula throwing clubs...

Mazer Chair by Tom Fereday
By Tom Fereday
Located in Geneve, CH
Mazer Chair by Tom Fereday Dimensions: W 35 x D 35 x H 55 cm Materials: Solid Travertine. Weight: 130 Kg. MAZER COLLECTION: Mazer represents a series of geometric sculptures, each a celebration of the fundamental beauty and natural variation of stone. Strict brutalist forms of the table and seating collection are juxtaposed by soft organic cutaways carving through the porous stone surfaces, revealing the natural beauty and character of travertine. Named after the medieval term ‘Mazer’ meaning bowl, the collection presents subtle organic forms proportioned for table and seating function designed for permanence. Porous formations of the stone’s structure act as an intentional disruption to the clean geometric forms of the series adding character and intrigue. The limited edition series was crafted from travertine and locally produced in Italy from a combination of machine and traditional hand made processes, each piece exhibiting its own unique characteristics and form with no one piece alike. Mazer is designed by Australian designer Tom Fereday exemplifying Fereday’s desire to honour materiality, combining form and function to produce enduring works. Tom Fereday develops products based on the principle of honest design, conveying a design process which celebrates the materials and manufacturing processes behind furniture and products, to design from the inside out. By using the materials and environment as a positive design constraint we guide intelligent and thoughtful design outcomes which connect with people through natural materials, tactile finishes and unique design. We strive to create enduring designs which are meaningful to people and their environment. Born in Australia, Tom Fereday grew up in England studying at the Wimbledon School of Art before moving to Sydney to complete an honours in Industrial Design at the University of Technology Sydney. Working across europe and Australia Tom Fereday went onto found his sole practice in 2012. "Song Armchair" By Maker&Son x ALM
By Maker&Son
Located in Potts Point, NSW
Armchair by Maker&Son x ALM featuring "Japan" by Nathalie Du Pasquier & George Sowden fabric from Zigzag Zurich Studio ALM has worked on a second collab with Maker & Son. The point of departure is the armchair itself—that improbably generous piece of furniture is often called the most comfortable chair in the world. People don’t simply buy a Maker & Son chair; they keep it, they live with it, they share it. Which is why the option to renew its skin, to change the cover without changing the chair, feels like aquiet revolution. Permanence and reinvention can, in fact, coexist. The inspiration came, as before, from elsewhere: Jenny Kee...
