Iconic and refined pair of poufs with velvet cushions and aluminum frame; the almost square top of the poufs has been restored and upholstered with an expensive, elegant, and sturdy velvet in a delicate but bold green color; the seat is supported by a solid, massive aluminum column and pivoted to it in such a way that it can rotate freely through 360°; from the column branch off four boldly shaped, slightly curved, and extremely sturdy legs at the end of which are placed non-slip rubber feet; these sturdy legs give exceptional stability to the whole. The pair of poufs were handcrafted between 1960 and 1965 in Meda in the province of Monza and Brianza in Lombardy, Italy, a place famous for its design industry and historic handcrafted production of classic and modern furniture. The artisans were inspired by fashion design in those fascinating and creative 1960s, a design that left room for creative freedom and innovation, a design that explodes into a variety of styles and movements that explain its richness, making room for roundness, freedom of form and movement, lightness and simplicity. The artisans were inspired by the desire to devise two small-sized objects with strong, simple lines and gave the pair of poufs a timeless elegance; their design plays between austerity and strictness, and their exaggerated linearity gives the objects a dynamic and stately character. Reclaiming simple materials and basic shapes, with an eye to architecture and mountain life, led to the creation of two historic design low table-stools inspired respectively by the milking stool used by mountain shepherds in the French town much loved by the author.
Placed individually or in lively arrangements, the two low tables bring the pleasing lightness of solid wood to indoor settings emphasized by the continuity of the grain between the top and the edges and the countless natural variations in the wood.
Each piece is made of unique solid wood, so every piece will be different from one another and not exactly as the one on the photos.
Both pieces are inspired by the mountains. While the latter takes its name from the milking-stool used by alpine shepherds, the former is inspired by the French locality much loved by designer and architect Charlotte Perriand.
