An inset nickeled bronze side bar flanks and accents the back rest, granting this chair a very unusual and unique style.
These chairs are skillfully designed, well crafted and of solid construction.
The cushion seats and backs in desert taupe/ mauve color naugahyde upholstery are in good vintage condition but are original and of the period.
The cushions are easily removable for re -upholstery if need be.

Rene Prou was born in Nantes and educated in Paris. He was a furniture and a decorator who studied at the Ecole Bernard-Palissy in Paris.
Shortly thereafter, Prou joined the design house, Gouffé and became their chief designer. He was known as the first decorator of the modern taste.

The frames of these chairs are composed of nickel-plated steel rods that are welded together, and the seats are upholstered in a blue geometrically patterned fabric.
Each chair measures 25.5 inches long, 36.25 inches wide, and is 30.25 inches tall. Their seat height is 18.5 inches. No labels remain, and these look to have been reupholstered at some point. The warm brown finished rosewood is exceptionally well-figured and trimmed with a thin nickeled bronze decorative banding all around the base and overall. Since these chairs are finished on all three sides, they can be placed freestanding in the middle of a room featuring a beautiful back. Antique hob nails as welting surround the caramel colored upholstered leather. Futuristic, clean and architectural lines grace this pair of side chairs and read like art but are made for everyday use and enjoyment.
