This is a beautifully hand painted Chinese Export porcelain plate or bowl from the Qing, Kangxi period, 1662-1722, fully marked to the base with the Kangxi period Artemisia Leaf mark within a double blue ring. The plate is of dinner plate size, finely potted with a carefully cut base rim and a lovely rich glassy, white glaze with a light blue tinge. The plate is carefully hand painted in a free flowing style, characteristic of the period, in varying shades of a clear cobalt blue, iron red and gold. The central well is decorated in the Imari style with flowering peonies, asters and other flowers and grasses, with a small insect flying above the flowers, all within two sets of concentric blue circles. The outer rim is richly decorated with flower sprigs and leaves, all within an outer blue circle. The base of the plate has a recognized and documented hand painted Kangxi symbol of an Artemisia Leaf, within a double blue ring. Weight: 40 kg. Guanyin, Kwanyin, Guanshiyin or Guanyin Pusa is the Chinese interpretation of the bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara (the goddess of comfort and mercy). In addition, she is seen in Taoism as an immortal. The scripture dedicated to her is Dabeizhou. Guanyin is the goddess of compassion and the sea. Several large temples in East Asia are dedicated to Guanyin, including Shaolin Monastery, Longxing Temple, Puning Temple, Nanhai Guanyin Temple, Dharma Drum Mountain, Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple, Shitennō-ji, Sensō-ji, Kiyomizu-dera, Sanjūsangen-dō, and many others. Guanyin's abode and bodhimaṇḍa in India is recorded as being on Mount Potalaka. With the localization of the belief in Guanyin, each area adopted their own Potalaka. In Chinese Buddhism, Mount Putuo is considered the bodhimaṇḍa of Guanyin. Naksansa is considered to be the Potalaka of Guanyin in Korea. Japan's Potalaka is located at Fudarakusan-ji. Tibet's Potalaka is the Potala Palace. Vietnam's Potalaka is the Hương Temple. There are several pilgrimage centers for Guanyin in East Asia. Putuoshan is the main pilgrimage site in China. There is a 33 temple Guanyin pilgrimage in Korea which includes Naksansa. In Japan, there are several pilgrimages associated with Guanyin. The oldest one of them is the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage, a pilgrimage through 33 temples with Guanyin shrines. Guanyin is beloved by most Buddhist traditions in a nondenominational way and found in most Tibetan temples under the name Chenrézik (Wylie: Spyan ras gzigs). Guanyin is also beloved and worshipped in the temples in Nepal. The Hiranya Varna Mahavihar located in Patan is one example. Guanyin is also found in some influential Theravada temples such as Gangaramaya Temple, Kelaniya and Natha Devale nearby Temple of the Tooth...

Perfect size, best price, 19th century Chinese stand, with calligraphy-like marks underneath. This entirely handcrafted, Chinese table from circa 1880-1890 is as strong and stable as the day it was made and it has the most beautiful patina. Thanks to its ideal design and size this, to us, is the perfect wine table or perhaps a pedestal for an Asian spiritual sculpture. Unfortunately we know nothing about the carved mythological, Chinese figures/creatures (possibly dragons) on each corner. All sides of this solid wooden table also come with striking flower motives and all legs have carved, claw feet. The bottom of the solid wooden structure of this Asian table is marked with Chinese calligraphy -like letters stating its country of origin. Apart from some minor restorations to the wood (that give this antique table even more character), this stylish and rare table is in excellent condition and it is definitely ready for you to use and enjoy.
