English Regency Brass Mounted Exotic Woods Writing Table, Gillows, circa 1820

An exceptional circa 1820 English regency period rectangular-form writing or occasional table attributed to Gillows having brass bound cusped-corner top with ebony line inlay and satinwood feather-banding surrounding center field of bookmatched amboyna, the double elliptical high arched stretchers joining gilt-brass-mounted end supports having turned calamander spindles and braces issuing turned finials between ebony downswept legs ending in acanthus-leaf-cast brass casters. Several 'spindle end' writing tables were featured in the 'Gillows Estimate Sketch Book' of 1818, and a table of similar end supports stamped GILLOWS LANCASTER is illustrated in Susan Stuart's 'Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730-1840', Vol. I., Woodbridge: Antique Collectors’ Club, 2008. pl. 329, p. 301, stating "a table frame with spindle ends was supplied in the 1820s by Gillows of London to display marble brought back from the Grand Tour by the Tempests of Broughton Hall...

Amboyna is among the most expensive and sought-after of all burls and is frequently sold as veneer or as small turning. Amboyna burl was and still is among the world's rarest and most expensive & Exquisite holding the distinction of being the original wood used on Rolls Royce dashboards. An important and rare 19th century Period King Charles X Large desk with a Pull out Single wide drawer Mirrored in the manner of partners Desk , Enclosing fitted Eight Columns with incredible Bronze dore work magnificent ormolu capitol of scrolls, foliate. Outstanding light in color and fine in texture Carved Wood. All original hardware and plaques. Mounted on Geometric lower base arched on both sides that allows this magnificent piece to be used as a center table and as a console at the same time, elevating the entirety of this art work of this rare Desk to a category of its own finely chased laurel leaf wreath. As seen in the closeup pictures the signs of the centuries are apparent but minor considering such a large piece of furniture, such as cracks chips losses etc. But overall outstanding condition. You are welcome to send your expert to examine it in person. we have seen our fair share of incredible furniture of the 15th to 19th Century periods. this table Desk is incredibly well preserved for its age and use . the fitting work and the design i have rarely encountered any at that level of sophistication and craftsmanship. The result that could only be achieved by big Masters comparable to what was done for the Grande Commande. This type of furniture at that level are mostly kept with the old families, rarely to see them on the market. I have some other high end chateau inventory and rare pieces of the periods as well.
