A large Victorian glass match striker dating to the late 19th century, featuring a spherical body of pale, translucent frosted glass finished with a broad silver metal collar. The substantial glass sphere has a softly textured, matt surface, most likely produced through acid etching. Its pale, slightly yellow-green tint gives the glass a gentle luminosity, contrasting with the reflective silver collar. The collar surrounds the circular opening and extends down into the interior, forming a metal-lined receptacle for matches. The exterior frosted surface provides the friction needed for striking traditional matches. The spherical form is balanced by a small, flattened base, also finished with a frosted texture.
