This magnificent handwoven wool and silk wall hanging envisions the marriage of the New Testament figures, Mary and Joseph, with the High Priest flanked by Mary and Joseph at center and a dove above them, and with the central figures attended by a noblewoman and a group of men, and with a mother and child seated in the right foreground. The central scene is enclosed within a border that is characterized by upper and lower central cartouches, supported by putti. It contains a star above, and the armorial of Pierre Guischard below.
