Vintage Skull Multi Chain Choker Necklace Blue Enamel Ruthenium Paris 2008 J DAUPHIN
Designer: J DAUPHIN
J DAUPHIN skull multi-chain choker necklace handmade in Paris in 2008 in ruthenium-plated brass with hand-applied blue glitter glass enamel. A one-of-a-kind piece, the necklace is constructed from multiple layers of dark gunmetal chain set with five elongated sculptural studs and finished with a skull and bone motif at the closure.
The layered chains fall at different lengths around the neck, creating a dense, dimensional silhouette between a choker and a multi-strand chain necklace. Five elongated pointed studs punctuate the chains, with selected elements finished in vivid blue glitter glass enamel that contrasts against the dark ruthenium surface.
At the closure, a sculpted skull and bone introduces the memento mori symbolism found throughout J DAUPHIN's early jewelry. Historically, the skull in jewelry has served as a reminder of mortality and the transience of life—a symbol intended to sharpen awareness of the present. Within this design, the blue enamel adds a contrasting reference to clarity and focus.
The combination of skull imagery, pointed studs, layered chains and dark gunmetal-colored ruthenium gives the necklace a distinctly punk and rock-and-roll character, while its hand-worked construction and enamel details place it within the tradition of sculptural designer jewelry.
Handmade in Paris in 2008, this one-of-a-kind necklace reflects the industrial and symbolic vocabulary of J DAUPHIN's early Paris period. The piece remains unworn.
