Magnificent cigarette case holder, created in Paris France, back in the 1929. Crafted at the atelier of the goldsmith Paul Delahais in solid .950/.999 sterling silver with gilded interiors and polished finish. Gilded silver pendant in book form with hinged, lid, corded wire surround, and engraved spine. The front cover of the book is set with a plaque depicting Moses receiving the Law in verre églomisé, and the back cover shows the Sacrifice of Abraham. The scenes are in gold against a red background. When opened, the book reveals two portraits, probably of a husband and wife, wearing seventeenth-century dress. The costumes suggest a date c. 1630-40; the wife holds a daisy. Trefoil-shaped pendant loop on top and bottom, and book clasp.
As in the scenario described for the assemblage of these pendant miniature books (see no. 34), this book may have satisfied the desires of a particular patron, perhaps even one of the Jewish faith. The images that have been chosen for the four verre églomisé inserts are somewhat unusual within the group of comparable objects; on the front is Moses, on the back is the Sacrifice of Isaac. On the inside, instead of an iconic or doctrinal image, one sees portraits of the patron and his wife, in their finest dress, contents reminiscent of a modern locket...

This is truly an important and stunning piece of Objet d'art. This Sèvres style porcelain necessaire/fragrance box dates back to the early 1800s Palais Royale French Empire of Napolean Bonapart I. This would most certainly adorn the highest nobility and aristocrats.
In the mid-1800s, the best souvenirs from Paris were found in the boutiques of the famed Palais Royale of Paris, the old palace of Cardinal Richelieu. The boutiques lined the promenade of the central gardens, and the area was host to Royals, dignitaries, and the posh societies of the time. The treasures from the Palais Royale remain today some of the most sought-after antiques to be found.
The production of perfumery articles became an industry in the nineteenth century when a new champion emerged, Napoleon Bonaparte, who had a standing order with his perfumer for 50 bottles of cologne a month.
In the 18th Century, porcelain was one of the most highly prized commodities in the world. In the 19th Century, the Sèvres factory was well-known for its brilliant bleu céleste ground colour. Sèvres gilding is often finely worked or ‘tooled’ with subtle patterns and has a light touch that is very distinctive.

Kenneth Jay Lane--whose monogram KJL is signed on the white-rose-decorated gold-tone clasp of this double-strand black-beaded resin necklace--is only one of four bylined jewelry designers collected by The Brooklyn Museum Costume Collection At The Metropolitan Museum of Art from the two-decade period between 1970-1989, which was dominated by such bold big shapes in mostly black, white and gold.
A must for any collector of the world-renowned American-founded beauty-brand Avon, its rare limited-edition retailed necklace by Lane titled "Midnight Rose" is among the most distinctive that it produced among its lines of primarily perfume, cosmetics, and personal-care products whose origin dates back to 1886 in New York. Notably, the life-sized shiny cast-acrylic rose has the look of a far more expensive carved stone, such as one cut and polished from light-filled saturated-white chalcedony, which is a hard semi-precious stone favored by Lane.
Like Lane's own line when it was originally signed KJL, the decorated clasp is uniquely designed. It locks underneath with a semi-circular hinge, which enables the stylized three-dimensional smooth rose to be perfectly positioned on the right side of the upper chest with the bud facing upwards above its three-leaf sepal in contrasting gilt textured metal. This position adds sparkle from above to the three pave rhinestones in a gold-tone setting at center of the rose, as if its dew-covered bud was beginning to open in strong moonlight. To balance the bold rose shape, the black strands cross each other below at a single point, which adds another eye-catching element to the concealed-string-tied necklace.
In mint condition with no sign of wear, the necklace was acquired in its original lavender Avon retail box. In contrast, the paper shows wear and tear from handling, while still featuring the jewelry designer's full-name script signature, title, and text details like how to care for this synthetic jewelry.
