This is a rare and wonderful antique Belle Epoque, Victorian ring with a beautiful hand carved Intaglio of a Roman Warrior God with a winged helmet, Mercury or Hermes, in Bloodstone. The early ring is 10 Karat Gold. The blood stone is hand carved with the image of a Roman Warrior God - Hermes or Mercury. Carving hard stone gems, such as bloodstones, is very difficult and requires a superb artisan. The carving on the stone is just stunning. The bloodstone has fabulous specks of red, or "blood" which are created in most instances by flecks of the red stone, Jasper. Bloodstone itself is a variety of quartz.
