About the Item

Signet Intaglio Ring featuring Carnelian (type of Agate) stone with the detailed heraldic depiction of Von Boltenstern's coat of arms under the crown of Nobility set into wide band ring in solid 18K Orange Gold.. The body of the stone is dark Orange measuring 22 mm x 16 mm / ca. 12 ct. Very well done hand carving work - it makes fine impression on soft plasticine or seal wax. Each arrow is just 5 mm long. The shield is 13.5 mm x 10 mm. The back side of the stone is closed. Apparently, this intaglio is much older than the ring it was later set into. Intaglio may well be about 150 - 200 years old and was mounted in the first half of the XX century. There are Swedish hallmarks on the band 18K, jeweler's marks, no year hallmarks to say an exact year of mounting. The band is partially hollow. In great used condition, the stone is securely set, with minor scratches on the surface. Minor dents and scratches on metal. Size: Ø 9.5 US / 19.41 mm. The band is wide and it's difficult to say the exact size, can be a bit over Ø 9.5 US. Traces of previous sizing. Sizing is possible for additional payment The weight of the ring is 15.5 grams P.S : On the last image : Wehrmacht General Walter von Boltenstern (1889 – 1952) at Smolensk, Soviet Russia 15-July-1941 This family originates from Pomerania in Germany. The oldest known ancestor is the mayor of Loitz, Michael Bolte (born about 1550), councilor of Duke Philip I of Pomerania-Wolgast. His grandson, the assessor later the Council of the Court of Appeal in the Pomeranian Court of Appeal, Joachim Bolte (1615–1688), was knighted in 1675 26/6 at Stockholm Castle by King Charles XI with the name Boltenstern. His great-grandson, the major in the North Skåne Cavalry Regiment, Gustaf Adolf Boltenstern (1769–1864), was introduced on behalf of the family 1824 27/3 without the condition stipulated in § 37 1809 form of government under no. 2295. The branches of the family living in Germany have always been signed as von Boltenstern. A member of it, Carl Wilhelm von Boltenstern, was enrolled in 1806 under No. 11 in the third class, in the same year King Gustav IV Adolf established the Swedish Knights' House for Pomerania and Rügen in Greifswald. The family members are mainly residents of Germany but also Austria and the USA.
