Frankfurt Faience Blue & White Chinoiserie Bottle Vase, Trumpet Neck, 1680 This rare and early German faience bottle vase is attributed to the Frankfurt manufactory and dates to the last decades of the 17th century. The globular body rises to a slender neck that flares into a trumpet mouth, a form taken directly from the Chinese porcelain bottles that reached Europe in the second half of the 17th century. The vase is painted in a rich underglaze blue on a bright white tin glaze with the chinoiserie landscape for which Frankfurt was celebrated. The scene shows a Chinese figure in long flowing robes seated on a rocky bank and leaning forward, surrounded by stippled rockwork, sprays of grasses and tall broad-leaved banana plants...

Each plate measures 12.25 inches in diameter and is centered with a carefully balanced composition depicting a basket overflowing with flowers, rendered with assurance and clarity in rich cobalt blue. The surrounding border alternates between scrolling floral sprays and diamond-patterned panels, creating a rhythmic frame that guides the eye across the surface. Warm ochre-painted rims provide contrast against the white tin-glazed ground, lending definition and visual depth while neatly enclosing the decoration. The Parrot's Garden: Dutch Delft Polychrome Chinoiserie Plaque, Circa 1730–40 A rare and vibrant Dutch Delft polychrome wall plaque, dating to the early 18th century (circa 1730–40). The shaped plaque features a raised, molded border decorated with alternating painted panels of flowers and Chinese auspicious objects (such as scrolls and ribbons). The central scene is painted in a distinctive puce, yellow, and green palette, depicting a slightly off-center table holding a vase filled with flowers. Perched prominently on the floral branches is a large yellow parrot, surrounded by several flying insects. To the left, a small figure of a gardener stands with two watering pots at his feet, tending to the scene. The composition is surmounted by a molded blue shell finial pierced with a suspension hole, and the exterior rim is finished in blue. Measurements: Height: 8 7/8 inches (22.5 cm) Width: 9 3/4 inches (24.8 cm) Depth: 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) Condition: Good antique condition. No restoration is present. Italian Creamware Trompe l’Oeil Duck Tureens, Pair, Nove di Bassano Circa 1786–1802 Nove di Bassano, Veneto, Italy. Pasquale Antonibon factory, period of Giovanni Maria Baccin. Each of these two soup tureens is modeled as a duck at rest upon a low oval mound base, the body divided horizontally so that the upper half, with the head and neck, lifts away as the cover and seats into the lower basin. The modeling is naturalistic throughout, the plumage and the curve of the bill worked in crisp relief, and the pair are left entirely undecorated so that nothing competes with the sculpture. They are made in terraglia, the refined cream-colored earthenware developed in Italy in emulation of the Queen’s Ware perfected by Josiah Wedgwood in Staffordshire. Terraglia all’inglese reached the Veneto in 1780, when Carlo Vicentini del Giglio introduced it at Vicenza, and Giovanni Maria Baccin took up its manufacture at Nove from 1786, working calcium and magnesium carbonate and silica into the plastic clay; gypsum quarried at Asiago gave the body its characteristic ivory tone, which the lustrous clear glaze here carries across the whole surface. Tureens in the form of birds, animals and fruit belong to a European fashion for the trompe l’oeil table...

This fine pair of faience chargers were crafted by the pottery manufactory in Montereau, France. The manufactory was established in the 18th century and flourished in the 19th century with the creation of Creil-Montereau faience, a kind of lead-based earthenware set on a white body which originated in the area which these chargers are crafted from.
