By Max Manning

Located in Los Angeles, CA

Max Manning is a Houston-based painter whose practice he describes as “algorithmic abstraction”, studio-built systems that he deliberately disrupts to create compositions where loosely figurative fragments, patterns, and color fields collide. Working in series, Manning sets up rule-driven visual frameworks such as grids, repeated motifs, cut-outs, and layered shapes, and then interrupts them through shifts in palette, gesture, and scale. The result is a retro-contemporary language: paintings that acknowledge a world shaped by data and screens while insisting on the tactility, stillness, and breath of paint. • One-of-a-kind abstract artwork on paper measuring 14 inches high by 10 inches wide • Artwork is not framed • Signed by the artist on the back • Includes certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery • Convenient local Los Angeles delivery • Affordable Continental U.S. and international shipping available Across his practice, Manning has maintained a clear studio ethos: to “paint through the questions” of life lived alongside algorithms. Instead of reproducing digital aesthetics, he uses rule sets to destabilize them—allowing glitches, misalignments, and pauses to surface. The work’s visual “systems” act less like predictive code and more like open, humanized structures where attention can rest. This stance has resonated with curators and collectors attuned to abstraction’s current arc: grounded in art-historical form, responsive to contemporary cognition, and committed to the slow time of looking. Manning earned a BFA in Two-Dimensional Studies from Bowling Green State University (2011) and an MFA from the University of Cincinnati (2014). His work has been exhibited widely in the U.S. and abroad and gained early institutional and critical attention through selection for the 2017 Texas Biennial, curated by Leslie Moody Castro, with press coverage in Texas arts media. Artspace Warehouse has been representing and exhibiting Max Manning's original artworks since 2025. The gallery has been a 1stdibs partner since 2014 with consistently excellent reviews from clients worldwide. 'Moss Beach, Monterey, California', Pacific Coastal Landscape, ASL NYC, Benezit

By Elmer Wachtel

Located in Santa Cruz, CA

An early-20th-century, landscape showing a view of the coastline at Moss Beach in Monterey County with slate-blue skies overhead and a view towards a stand of windswept Monterey Cypress with a view of the cobalt blue ocean beyond. A particularly fresh and bright example, kept until recently in a portfolio. Monogrammed lower right, "EW", dated "X-mas 1909", signed verso, "Elmer Wachtel", and inscribed lower left, "Moss Beach, Monterey County, California". A prominent California landscape painter of the late 19th and early 20th-century, Elmer Wachtel specialized in panoramic coastal scenes and desert and mountain landscapes using impressionist brushstrokes. His early works were tonalist in mood, and his later paintings were more decorative and light hearted. Elmer Wachtel was an American artist who holds a high place in the early California school of Impressionism. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland on January 21, 1864 -- he received his artistic training at the Art Students' League of New York under William Merritt Chase, and the Art School in London 1901-02. While in California he resided and maintained studios in Los Angeles and Pasadena. In 1904 Elmer Wachtel married the artist Marion Kavanaugh (1876-1954) in Chicago. Husband and wife were frequently seen painting the Southern California landscape -- they were known to have traveled by horseback over the San Marcos Pass to the Santa Inez Valley -- they traversed and painted the coastline between Gaviota and Conception Lighthouse (just north of Santa Barbara, California), the Cooper Ranch (north of Santa Barbara), Matilija Canyon and Ojai, California. Venturing south the couple made it to the San Luis Rey River (near present day Oceanside) and the Cerisa Loma Ranch (near San Diego). In 1908 they trekked to the arid deserts of Arizona and New Mexico painting...

By Jacques Villon

Located in Milwaukee, WI

Signed with stamp, J.V. 7-5/8" x 4-3/4" art 19" x 15-1/4" frame Jacques Villon (French, 1875 - 1963) French painter, printmaker and illustrator. The oldest of three brothers who became major 20th-century artists, including Raymond Duchamp-Villon and Marcel Duchamp, he learnt engraving at the age of 16 from his maternal grandfather, Emile-Frédéric Nicolle (1830-94), a ship-broker who was also a much appreciated amateur artist. In January 1894, having completed his studies at the Lycée Corneille in Rouen, he was sent to study at the Faculty of Law of the University of Paris, but within a year he was devoting most of his time to art, already contributing lithographs to Parisian illustrated newspapers such as Assiette au beurre. At this time he chose his pseudonym: Jack (subsequently Jacques) in homage to Alphonse Daudet’s novel Jack (1876) and Villon in appreciation of the 15th-century French poet François Villon...

Mid Century Modern Interior Design Presentation Gouache Meuble Mural

Located in Cirencester, Gloucestershire

Title: Mid Century Modern Interior Design Presentation Gouache Meuble Mural Medium: Gouache ink and pencil on paper, unframed Size: 25.5 x 19.75 inches (height x width) Provenance: private collection Condition: Fair vintage condition. Noticeable creasing, edge wear and handling marks. Light foxing and surface dirt visible. Lower right corner slightly worn. Paper shows age toning throughout. Structurally sound but clearly a working design sheet. Description: A striking mid century French interior design presentation drawing titled Meuble Mural, depicting a modernist living room concept centred around a bold red wall unit. Executed in gouache, ink and pencil on artists paper, the composition presents a fully realised architectural perspective alongside a secondary floor plan study below, typical of professional design proposals from the 1950s or 1960s. The main perspective showcases a dramatic modern interior with clean architectural lines, floor to ceiling glazing, and a sculptural arrangement of low lounge chairs gathered around a circular table. The vibrant red wall unit forms the focal point of the composition, contrasted against muted grey walls and deep green flooring. The integrated shelving system, or meuble mural, reflects the era’s emphasis on built in storage and minimalist design. Stylised human silhouettes provide scale and reinforce the presentation quality of the work. Below, a monochrome floor plan reveals the spatial arrangement of the seating area and architectural elements, further confirming this as a professional design study rather than a purely decorative artwork. The careful use of colour blocking, perspective drawing and graphic typography aligns closely with mid century modern interior architecture, French modernist design and post war European decorative arts. This piece would strongly appeal to collectors of mid century modern design drawings, architectural presentation artworks, and interiors inspired by 1950s and 1960s French modernism. The presence of the French title Meuble Mural significantly enhances search visibility for collectors seeking original interior design concept art and vintage architectural renderings...

Located in Kansas City, MO

Anna Schuster Draft Design (Geometric Abstract, Shapes, Dark, Pastel) Gouache on Paper Year: 1992 Signed by hand, dated and inscribed Unique Size: 22.6 × 23.4 on 23.8 × 33.5 inches (57.4 × 59.4 cm on 60.5 × 85.1 cm) COA provided Anna Schuster is a German contemporary artist whose multidisciplinary practice spans painting, installation, photography, video, and new media. She studied from 1981–1983 at the Freie Kunstschule Stuttgart and from 1983–1989 at the Universität der Künste (UdK) Berlin, where she later also held several academic positions including guest professorship and teaching assignments. Schuster’s work is characterized by process-oriented exploration in which layering, fragmentation, and found elements reveal the evolution of the artistic act itself. Rather than presenting a fixed final image, her works emphasize transformation and temporality, allowing each stage of the process to remain visible and to trigger the next. In her video installations particularly, the dimension of time—through movement, stillness, and spatial perception—plays a central role. As Schuster has noted, “Every fixation simultaneously provokes its reversal and dissolution,” a concept that reflects her interest in instability, perception, and the poetic tension between structure and change. Her works have been exhibited widely in Germany and internationally and are held in numerous public and private collections, including the Kupferstichkabinett Berlin, the Berlinische Galerie, the Staatsgalerie Stuttgart, and the Skulpturenmuseum Glaskasten Marl.
