"Mallard Study" Oil Painting

"Mallard Study" Oil Painting

By Scott Conary

Located in Denver, CO

Scott Conary's "Mallard Study" is an original, handmade oil painting that depicts a yellow billed duck floating peacefully in tranquil blue waters. About the Artist: Raised where the East Coast suburbs filtered into the woods and farms, Scott Conary (Rhode Island School of Design, BFA ’93) creates expressive oil paintings with rich surfaces of everyday objects and places, often those with which we have complicated and ambiguous relationships. Pulled from their context, these objects say something about how we interact with the world and one another. These are stories of the arbitrary nature of beauty, of melancholy, of fleeting triumph, and the camouflage of time: the mess and splendor of the broken egg, the weed that fights to survive in the gaps of our attention, the weathered door used for generations but now forgotten, and so on. Fueling and inspiring this work is his young daughter’s battle with complicated heart defects, her experiences with disability, and the impact this has had on those around her. This has directed his focus toward the narratives and tensions in the familiar, and is why he wanders deeper into the thicket of representational work.  Conary's work is in collections nationally and internationally, and has been exhibited widely including Salmagundi’s American Masters shows. Conary is represented by the Principle Gallery (Alexandria, VA), Bowersock Gallery (Provincetown, MA), Turner Fine Art (Jackson...

OYV-19 - Contemporary Abstract Collage Painting- Yellow, measuring tape

OYV-19 - Contemporary Abstract Collage Painting- Yellow, measuring tape

Located in Signal Mountain, TN

OYV-19 is part of Eric Mack's ongoing body of work utilizing multi-media, complex compositions, and a grid centered around urban design. Using a grid to create the framework of the painting, Mack has re-purposed an old Lenny Kravitz album cover as the structure of the piece. On the edges of the piece you can see a complex edge consisting of a faux leather album cover, nylon mesh, and torn paper. As imagery, Mack has chosen musical notes, tape measure, and other music composition elements through Zerox copy adhered by matte medium to the surface. Mack then creates his own color to further tweak and personalize the piece. Eric Mack (b.1976, Charleston) creates mathematically based renderings with a distinct post-modern twist. Works are informed with super imposed grids, patterns, and portals. Layered surfaces are created with paint, found objects, natural fibers, and synthetic substrates that explore the systems of our visual world. His most recent show “Charting the Terrain” is on view now at the California African American Museum in Los Angeles was covered by the Los Angeles Times, KCRW, and LALA Magazine. His last solo exhibition was titled "Impossible Architectures" at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2017. Recent group shows include "Abstract Mind" at the Czong Institute of Contemporary Art, South Korea, "Small Works 2017 at Trestle Gallery, Brooklyn, "Checkered History", Outpost Artist Resources, Brooklyn, N.Y. 2015; Collections include High Museum Atlanta, Ing Investments, Hartsfield Jackson International Airport - Atlanta + Atlanta Gas & Light Co. Michael Kessler’s work explores the continuum between gesture and geometry. Each work consists of as many as 50 micro-thin layers of translucent and transparent acrylic. Biomorphic tendrils branch to and fro, while arcs of line and color slip over and under matrices, balancing nature’s sinuous curves with the mindfulness of structure. He likens the gestural freedom in his works to a kind of painterly “tai chi” – a...

19th Century animal oil painting of a duck & ducklings on a river bank

By Constant David Ludovic Artz

Located in Nr Broadway, Worcestershire

Constant Ludovic Artz Dutch, (1870-1951) Mother Duck & Ducklings Oil on panel, signed Image size: 9.5 inches x 15.25 inches Size including frame: 16.5 inches x 22.25 inches A delightful painting of a mother duck with her ducklings by constant Ludovic Artz. A white duck can be seen sitting on a river bank surrounded by her five ducklings. Two of the ducklings are shown taking rest by her side as the others forage close by. Constant David Ludovic Artz was born in Paris on 3 June, 1870, the son of David Adolph Constant Artz (1837-1890) and Josephine Jouanin. His father was a Dutch artist who had moved his family to Paris to set up a studio. The family returned to Holland in 1874 and settled in the Hague. Artz was taught art by his father and at the age of 12 enrolled at the Academy of Visual Arts in The Hague. He also received tuition from Hendrik Mesdag (1831-1915) and Willem Maris (1844-1910) who had an influence on his subject matter. He married Johanna Sophia Cecilia Ginjoolen at the Hague on 5 July, 1893. One of the witnesses was the artist Tony Offermans (1854-1911) whom he was apprenticed to at his studio. The couple went on to have two children together and to supplement his income, Artz also worked as an art teacher. One of his pupils was Leendert Scheltema (1876-1966). After divorcing from his first wife in 1915, he married Lucie Sophie van der Hoeven in 1917. At some point he moved to Soestdijk, living there until 1926 when he relocated to Katwijk at Sea in. He returned to Soestdijk in 1931 where he died on 23 February, 1951. Like his father, Artz was fascinated by nature and after painting a series of landscapes and seascapes began producing scenes featuring ducks and waterfowl usually on or by lakes and rivers. He was an expert at painting the play of light upon water and also preferred to work with smaller canvasses. His work can be found in private and public collections including the Rijksmuseum. Presentation: The work is housed in a new, English made gilt frame which is in excellent condition. Condition: As with all of our original antique oil paintings, this work is offered in ready to hang gallery condition, having been professionally cleaned, restored and revarnished. © Benton Fine...

Harbor with Moored Boats at Sunset, Impressionist Coastal Oil Painting

Harbor with Moored Boats at Sunset, Impressionist Coastal Oil Painting

By Ezelino Briante

Located in Genève, GE

Dimensions with frame: 34,5 x 48 x 4,5 cm. Signed "E. Briante" in the lower left corner. This atmospheric harbor scene captures a quiet waterfront at dusk, where moored boats rest on softly rippling water beneath a dramatic sky. Warm bands of orange light along the distant shoreline contrast with cool gray clouds, suggesting the final glow of sunset fading across the horizon. Painted in oil with expressive, confident brushwork, the artist emphasizes the movement of water through broken reflections and layered impasto. The boats, rendered with bold dark forms and flashes of color, anchor the composition while guiding the eye into the distance toward the clustered buildings and masts beyond. The restrained palette of muted grays, ochres, and rust tones evokes the mood of a working harbor at day’s end, balancing industrial character with poetic tranquility. Subtle highlights on the water surface create a luminous effect, giving the scene depth and atmosphere. The painting reflects modern European coastal traditions, combining impressionistic spontaneity with strong compositional structure. Both decorative and evocative, it would suit collectors of marine painting as well as designers seeking sophisticated maritime artwork. harbor scene oil painting, marine painting boats, impressionist harbor artwork, coastal oil painting, moored boats painting, maritime landscape oil painting, seascape harbor painting, vintage marine artwork, European harbor painting...
