Death's head moths under a full-moon, presented in a hand-carved c1880 oak frame

By Tom Rooth

Located in London, GB

'Death's head moths under a full-moon' work was created by Tom Rooth in the Cambrian Mountains of Wales. Production process: Tom makes the ceramic panel, which then dries for a month. After this, he carves it down, and then it goes into the kiln for a 48 hour cycle firing. Tom then draws onto the panel, with underglaze pencils, and then glazes the artwork which goes into the kiln once more, for another 48 hour firing cycle. It is then ready for the frame (the frame dictates the subject-matter). Kintsugi is a 15th-Century practice invented in Japan, and means 'to join with gold'. The practice is a reminder to embrace flaws, and celebrate the missteps of life, recognising that when seemingly catastrophic events happen, beauty and good can still result. Tom has an expert knowledge of frames - his parents were framers and restorers, and he worked at Christie's as Senior Picture Specialist and Director for 14 years, and prior to this Bonhams, Phillips and Sotheby's. Tom's works are unique, highly decorative, highly original, and will compliment any interior, whether traditional or contemporary. Tom has exhibited at The Treasure House...

A la Guerre - Original Mixed Media by Laura D'Andrea - 2018

A la Guerre - Original Mixed Media by Laura D'Andrea - 2018

By Laura D'Andrea

Located in Roma, IT

À la guerre is an original artwork realized by Laura D'Andrea in 2018. Oil, acrylic and carbon on canvas. Hand signed by the artist on the lower right margin. Perfect conditions. The artwork, realized by the artist with oil, acrylic colors, and carbon on canvas, shows an abstract composition with circular shapes. The dominant color is violet, yet there are also some blue and green shades. The title of the artwork recalls a battle: indeed, we can visualize some horses among the abstract lines. The composition suggests a sensation of movement. Laura D’Andrea is an Italian artist and engraver. She was born in Sicily, where she currently lives and works. She studied printing techniques and especially xylography at the Academies of Fine Arts in Rome and Urbino, as well as Philosophy and Literature at the University of Grenoble. Her first exhibition was “La mia Sicilia” (My Sicily) in 1969 at the Galleria Flaccovio in Palermo, where, a few years later, she exhibited with “Hippies a Londra” (Hippies in London). In the 1980s, she moved to Il Cairo in Egypt, where she studied Arabic calligraphy and found the opportunity to realize a series of graphic works to be exhibited at the Egypt Academy of Rome. In those years, she dedicated herself to doing research on the historical Sicilian Baroque art and culture. Between 1986 and 1988, her solo show “L’Immaginario nel Barocco” (The Baroque Culture) took place at the Galleria Artivisive in Rome, at the Museum and Library of Ursino, at the Recupero in Sicily, and at the European Parliament in Strasbourgh. In 2002, she participated in the exhibition “Memoria Greca nel Mediterraneo” (Greek memory in the Mediterranean) in Sicily. In 2007, she exhibited in Rome and in Saudi Arabia. Between 2011 and 2015, she started exploring the world of jazz music, which would become an important subject for her future artworks; in those same years, she exhibited her works in England and in Belgium. Her artworks represent a leap in the Mediterranean Sea, between Sicilian and Arab cultures. Laura D’Andrea loves jazz music: on her canvases, we can perceive the sounds of places and people far in both place and time. Other important elements of her works are calligraphy and Archeoscrittura. Archeoscrittura is a fascinating practice consisting of artists exploring their own genetic memories for finding signs of archaic scriptures. Laura D'Andrea draws inspiration from the depths of her personal memory, and from the study of symbols found in the Archaic writing in the Mediterranean. Her works can be viewed at the Museum of Modern Art Pecci in Florence; at the Museum of woodcut Carpi in Modena; at the Museum of Modern Art Maga in Varese, Milan; at the Museum of Modern Art in Valencia, Spain; at the Museum of Art Mart in Trento and Rovereto with the donation of Mirella Bentivoglio.

Original work by Mary Early. Work is graphite, wax crayon, and sumi ink on Arches paper, 12 1/4 x 16". "The production, or “pouring,” of beeswax elements has become a meditative process that is integral to my art practice, serving as an observation of time, materials, and space. The raw beeswax I use has taken its form at the end of a long series of natural processes followed by a manufacturing process, and once it is in my hands, the studio becomes a factory. I apply my own methods of transforming the material by casting the beeswax into three-dimensional forms. Once I have fixed both a place and a time in the future for a potential installation, I begin to determine how the beeswax lines will take their aggregated shape in that space and, simultaneously, how many lines might be manufactured for that particular space in the amount of time available." Mary Early (born 1975, Washington, DC) lives and works in Washington, DC. She studied visual art, film, and video at Bennington College, and her work has been exhibited at the United States Botanic Garden, Washington Project for the Arts, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Second Street Gallery (Charlottesville, VA), Hemphill Fine Arts (Washington DC,) the Austrian Cultural Forum (Washington DC), Galerie Im Ersten (Vienna, Austria), Kloster Schloss Salem (Salem, Germany), Kunstlerbund Tubingen (Tubingen, Germany), and the American University Museum (Washington DC) among other regional and national galleries. Her early work incorporated formed concrete, tarpaper and paraffin wax, fabricated wood structures, and, increasingly over the years, surfaces coated with wax as a method of preserving or concealing an object within. Recent works have relied solely on solid forms cast in wax, abandoning the use of any permanent armature. Temporary installations are guided by schematic drawings and plans, which then serve as a permanent record. In 2014 she exhibited her first large-scale installation of wax lines at Second Street Gallery in Charlottesville, VA, followed by temporary installations in response to various historical sites in Salem, Germany (2016) and Tubingen Germany (2017). In 2017 she participated in the exhibition “Twist-Layer-Pour” at the American University Museum, which included Untitled [Curve], an installation of thousands of beeswax lines assembled on the floor of the museum. In spring 2018 she was commissioned to create a temporary installation at the Sun Valley Center for the Arts, Sun Valley Idaho. This work took the form of two intersecting curtains of hanging beeswax lines bisecting a 12’ foot x 18’ foot room, providing an immersive and enclosed viewing space. Early’s work is included in the collections of the US Department of State/Embassy of Panama, Kimpton Hotels, and the District of Columbia Art Bank among other public and private collections. She is a recipient of the Artist Fellowship Grant from the DC Commission on Arts & Humanities, Washington DC (2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2011, 2009, 2007). "My work principally consists of deeply abstracted figure compositions--intuitive constructions that begin with random marks establishing larger masses of torsos, heads, and limbs in an undefined setting. The emphasis is almost purely on intuition. The figures are born of their surrounding environment, emerging only partially and fugitively from the layers of pigment. A narrative is evident but never overt. A crown, a shield, a boat, a wheel. Though the subject has recently coalesced around my reading of Dante and Shakespeare, the settings remain extremely vague- a beach, an interior, a woodland. The paintings are, in the end, meditations on the relationship between the protagonists in a wordless drama. In my paintings, I use a cold wax medium combined with dry pigments, oil paint, and embedded fragments of burlap. The surfaces eventually build up into a dense, rugged terrain." --Thaddeus Radell

Located in Bozeman, MT

Rooted in observation and fueled by a curiosity about the behavior of objects and handicraft processes, Carly Glovinski makes paintings, sculpture and works on paper that often teeter between representation and abstraction. Letting craft techniques like weaving inform her mark making, her work mimics everyday objects and highlights geometric pattern and structure found in textiles, while exploring the resourceful attitudes associated with domestic craft and rural communities that prioritize placemaking in concert with nature. She received her BFA from Boston University in 2003 and is represented by Morgan Lehman Gallery...

Fire Remembered — Abstract Expressionist Painting on Cardboard by Emmi Iida

Located in Lahti, FI

“Fire Remembered” is an original 54 x 47 cm painting on cardboard by Finnish multidisciplinary artist Emmi Iida, known for her emotionally charged abstractions that merge movement, intuition, and raw texture. The work pulses with elemental energy — vivid reds, deep umbers, and molten oranges rise from the surface like embers caught in motion. Painted in acrylics on cardboard, its composition feels both spontaneous and ceremonial, as if capturing the memory of warmth after transformation. This piece speaks of renewal and the persistence of creative fire — a reminder of the beauty within change and the power of emotion made visible. Its compact scale and strong visual rhythm make it a striking addition to any contemporary collection. About the Artist: Emmi Iida is an internationally exhibiting artist, author, musician and interior architect, working at the intersection of visual art, sound, and design. Her practice is rooted in Nordic minimalism and emotional depth, infused with a global perspective from her years living and creating across Europe and the United States. Her works have been acquired by collectors from New York to Los Angeles, Sydney to Paris, and she is currently represented by MONAT Gallery (Paris, Madrid, Innsbruck) and Van Gogh Art Gallery (Munich, Miami). Upcoming exhibitions include international art fairs and group shows in Europe and the United States in 2025. Abstract Art on Paper...
