OYV-19 is part of Eric Mack's ongoing body of work utilizing multi-media, complex compositions, and a grid centered around urban design. Using a grid to create the framework of the painting, Mack has re-purposed an old Lenny Kravitz album cover as the structure of the piece. On the edges of the piece you can see a complex edge consisting of a faux leather album cover, nylon mesh, and torn paper. As imagery, Mack has chosen musical notes, tape measure, and other music composition elements through Zerox copy adhered by matte medium to the surface. Mack then creates his own color to further tweak and personalize the piece. Eric Mack (b.1976, Charleston) creates mathematically based renderings with a distinct post-modern twist. Works are informed with super imposed grids, patterns, and portals. Layered surfaces are created with paint, found objects, natural fibers, and synthetic substrates that explore the systems of our visual world. His most recent show “Charting the Terrain” is on view now at the California African American Museum in Los Angeles was covered by the Los Angeles Times, KCRW, and LALA Magazine. His last solo exhibition was titled "Impossible Architectures" at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2017. Large, Unique Abstract Surrealist Oil Painting in the Chicago Imagist Tradition

Located in Chicago, IL

A Unique, Unusual and Striking Abstract Surrealist Painting Completed in the Chicago Imagist Tradition by Notable Artist, Stanley Dean Edwards (Am. Born 1941). Titled "The Last Living Face in Pompeii", the painting is oil and acrylic on canvas presented in its original frame. The artwork shows a unique synthesis of Post-War Surrealist influences, including the avant-garde Italian artist Enrico Baj and the vibrant palette of the Chicago Imagist school, namely Ed Paschke and his contemporaries. The collage-like references in the composition recall the artwork of sculptor H.C. Westermann and others experimenting with assemblage, found objects and the integration of inanimate objects. Artwork size: 38 1/2 x 32 inches; Framed size: 39 1/4 x 33 1/4 inches. Signed "Edwards", lower right; signed, titled and dated on reverse. Provenance: The Artist; Private Collection, Chicago, IL (circa 2010). Born 1941 in Joliet, Illinois, Stanley Dean Edwards moved to Chicago early in life to pursue his life as an artist. His mother was a Chicago public school teacher, and his father was a Methodist minister. He studied painting and design at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC), receiving a BFA in 1967. While at SAIC, Edwards was influenced by Vera Berdich's printmaking classes and Daniel Massen's design classes. After a brief stay in New York (1967-1970), where he was profoundly shaken by urban rioting and general upheaval of this time, Edwards returned to Chicago and later set up a studio in the Pilsen Neighborhood. Edwards is primarily a figurative painter whose work is informed by both Surrealism and Constructivism. Early hard-edge paintings from the mid-1960's feature a series of screaming babies set in brightly colored environments. These works offer religious suggestions, as the infants are paired with ecclesiastical figures presented atop an altar. Other protagonists of his series include dogs and faceless men. (1) In the early 1960's, Stan Edwards was part of a diverse group of artists that included George Kokines, Ray Siemanowski, Michael Hurson and Peter Holbrook among others. These artists and Edwards were part of that decade's vanguard and their work was included in an exhibition titled, "Twelve Chicago Artists" at the Walker Art Center. The curator was Jan Van der Marck. Edwards called his paintings of babies, dogs and erotic torsos from that period "image painting" because they were taken not from the model stand but cast off photo images. One painting from this period, Infant in Altar IV, is a 60" x 60" an oil and acrylic painting and was loaned by the National Museum of American Art at the Smithsonian to the Museum of Contemporary Art for its fifty year retrospective titled, "Art in Chicago, 1945 to 1995." The painting is part of the Martha Jackson memorial collection at the National Museum of American Art. (2.) Recent paintings, which Edwards calls "Icons for a New Era: Assembled Art Imagery," feature iconic images composed of items from popular culture; witty titles often allude to the materials from which they were made. The found objects, vibrant colors, and slick presentations of his works indicate their relationship to and a continuation of Pop art. Both humorous and sinister, Edwards' paintings reflect the psychological uneasiness associated with the close of the twentieth century. (3.) One painting of this series titled Surveyor is a 66" x 60" oil and acrylic painting and appears in the book Humor in Art by Nicholas Roukes, published by Davis Inc. The book is widely used as a text for art and design projects. (4.) In October of 2002 Edwards presented a retrospective exhibition of his work at the Illinois Institute of Art where he taught art and design in the foundation program. His lecture and exhibition were presented as part of "Chicago Artist's Month" sponsored by the Department of Cultural Affairs for the City of Chicago. In 2004 Edwards completed a major commission for the new Veterans' Administration building in Chicago. The commission centered on patriotic themes and one large 6 and 1/2' x 10' painting is dedicated to prisoners of war. Five others are 48" x 48" and depict the military branch seals, and four paintings 32" x 32" are based on 19th century patriotic engravings. Stan Edwards, who retired from the Illinois Institute of Art in 2009, lives and works in Chicago, Illinois. Sources: (2. & 4.) Press release (1. & 3.) "Art in Chicago 1945 1995, MCA.) Surrealist Large Painting Royal College of Art LGBTQ+ Female Blue Green Water

By Isabel Rock

Located in Norfolk, GB

Isabel Rock is a creator of contemporary fairy tales. A graduate of the Royal College of Art in London, her work is an explosion of strange occurrences while a surreal narrative takes the audience on a journey into the imagination. In October 2023 Isabel won the Evelyn Williams Drawing Award at the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize. Known as the UK’s most prestigious annual open exhibition for drawing; part of the prize is a solo show at Hastings Contemporary, scheduled for 2024. Whilst Isabel always has a tale to tell for each of her images, you may or may not choose to go on the journey with her or you may indeed have a different story, one of your own that jumps off the page at you, that that you decide to follow. Artwork Details: Water, 122 x 152cm, Collaged woodblock print, acrylic inks on Somerset satin paper, 2023 Artwork Provenance: from the Artist Studio photo credits, Isabel working, black and white shots, James Brown In Isabel's own words: Water; Once upon a time there was water. It fell from the sky in clear blue droplets. It made pools and puddles on the ground. The water tasted sweet and pure, it was good to drink, to make soup, to swim in or to wash in. It made the plants and trees grow big and luscious, it was the lifeblood of everything.. Everybody loved water and no one ever questioned where it came from or that one day the rain might stop and there would be no water.  The water women went about their usual business, they made soup, they grew cabbages, they argued and laughed together. The well was always full, there was food aplenty, life thrived. It is sometimes said that ignorance is bliss, and the women did live in bliss although they did not know it. They did not know that one day the rain would stop. It was only when the rain stopped that they knew they had lived in bliss. *Please note we are happy to ship this work rolled in an art tube. Whilst the work is on heavy duty art paper and mixed media, the artist is happy that the painting will be fine rolled in a tube. This is a more cost effective and environmentally sound method of shipping. Shipping via this method is free. About Isabel Rock and her work: Taking inspiration from Japanese woodblock prints and Indian miniature painting Rock has developed a unique collage technique that combines bold structures with large-scale woodblock prints and intricate detailing. The subject is a grand mixture of humour, drama, hidden morals, fanciful characters, modern culture, mythical beings and fantastical situations. Rock creates a world that pulls you in and demands your attention. Quality of line is paramount, the drawings are created using a dipping pen and acrylic ink. An essential tool is a squirrel...

David Jang strives to transform the detritus of urban life into minimalist paintings of formal elegance, both gritty and sublime. He hopes to inspire others to discover art as a necessity to the human condition, not a luxury. David Jang’s work utilizes materials and object-making to articulate the countervailing forces inherent in the everyday; expansion and contraction, perfection and imperfection, force and balance, have and have not. This large 60 by 60" square artwork is wired and ready to hang. Jang created this original artwork using melted foam cups on canvas. The sides of the artwork are white, and it does not require framing. A certificate of authenticity and hanging hardware are included. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable global shipping is available. David Jang was born in Seoul, Korea in 1975 and received his BFA from the College of Visual Arts, St. Paul, Minnesota, where he studied sculpture and painting. He lives in Los Angeles and is represented by Artspace Warehouse, Los Angeles. His artworks have been exhibited and collected worldwide. Jang’s process can be described as an exacting, fanciful, even obsessive re-appropriation of common materials—one in which he deconstructs, reprograms and reconstitutes industrial and commercial cast-offs to reveal new relationships between the object and the viewer. Most people know the media he uses in their ubiquitous forms—as a potato chip bag, a remote control, plastic jar, Styrofoam cup, coiled wire, light bulbs, et cetera—but coded also into each of these objects (and the materials from which they are composed) are its life’s instructions. David Jang describes his process: “As I examine the continuum of the objects, I begin to discover the hidden subtexts and hierarchies these objects uphold—the social orders they sustain or subvert and the relationships they facilitate or fail. I attempt to foster a self-revelatory creative process, one that is empirical yet open-ended. In this way my work results, not in forced conversation, but in quasi-scientific discovery.” EDUCATION 1999 BFA, College of Visual Arts, St. Paul, Minnesota SOLO EXHIBITIONS 2016 LAX Airport, Los Angeles, CA Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong Sandra Lee Gallery, San Francisco, CA Affordable Art Fair New York, NY Gallery on Wade, Toronto, Canada 2015 Kellogg University Art Gallery, Pomona, CA TUB Gallery, Miami, FL 2014 Locust Projects, Miami, FL Los Angeles Art Fair - Gallery 825, CA 2013 Gallery 825 (LAAA), Los Angeles, CA Sandra Lee Gallery, San Francisco, CA Downtown Art Center Gallery, Los Angeles, CA 2012 Gallery 825 (LAAA), Los Angeles, CA Palos Verdes Art Center, Rolling Hills Estates, CA 2011 Art Platform LA, Los Angeles, CA Sandra Lee Gallery, San Francisco, CA Lois Lambert Gallery, Santa Monica, CA Downtown Art Center Gallery, Los Angeles, CA Gallery OMS, Fort Lee, NJ 2010 Gallery 825 (LAAA), Los Angeles, CA Brand Library & Art Center , Glendale, CA 2009 Sandra Lee Gallery, San Francisco, CA Downtown Art Center Gallery, Los Angeles, CA IT Gallery, Los Angeles, CA 2008 FT Art Gallery, Los Angeles, CA 2002 ED Gallery, Still Water, MN 2001 YY Gallery, Edina, MN 2000 Hilton Hotel, Minneapolis, MN 1999 Ford Centre Gallery, Minneapolis, MN GROUP EXHIBITIONS 2016 Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong Affordable Art Fair New York, NY Palm Springs Fine Art Fair, CA 2015 Shane-show Gallery, Beijing, China Seongbuk Cultural Foundation, Seoul, Korea Glendale Central Library, Glendale, CA Cheryl Hazan Contemporary Art, New York, NY Locust Projects, Miami, FL Affordable Art Fair New York, NY Palm Springs Fine Art Fair, CA Space in Arts, New York, NY LA Art Show, Los Angeles, CA 2014 Affordable Art Fair Hamburg, Germany Affordable Art Fair Amsterdam, Netherlands Art Toronto (Fine Art Fair), Canada Houston Fine Art Fair, TX Artspace Warehouse, Los Angeles, CA TUB Gallery, Miami, FL Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, Los Angeles, CA Love Art Fair Toronto, Canada AAF New York, NY 2013 Affordable Art Fair Seattle, WA Laguna Art Museum, Laguna Beach, CA Gallery Y, Los Angeles, CA 2012 Artspace Warehouse, Los Angeles, CA Locust Projects, Miami, FL Lois Lambert Gallery, Santa Monica, CA Los Angeles Art Association, Los Angeles, CA Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, CA ZASK Gallery, Rolling Hills Estates, CA 2011 Municipal Art Gallery, Los Angeles, CA Coastline Art...
