19th Century Hudson River School Bucolic Landscape

By John Frederick Kensett

Located in Soquel, CA

Beautiful example of the Hudson River School romantic bucolic New York autumn landscape with cows foraging. Illegible artist signature on stretcher bar (See enhanced images). Condition: very good; professionally cleaned and minor restoration upper right hand corner where paint was missing. Unframed. Image size: 14"H x 24"W x .75"D Hudson River School was an informal association was America's first so-called school of painting and the dominant landscape style until the Civil War. The name derives from a group of 19th-century landscape painters working in New York state. With realistic composition, they depicted romantic views of unsettled areas of the Hudson River Valley especially lakes, rocky gorges, and forests in the Catskill Mountains. About a fourth of these artists utilized luminism or effects with special lighting techniques to convey lofty emotions through contrasts of light and dark. Included in this Hudson River luminist category were Washington Allston, Albert Bierstadt, William Hart, and Frederic Edwin Church...

Inflatable Dolphin Painting in Tropical Jungle River Contemporary Pink Balloon

By Sofía Cristina Jiménez

Located in FISTERRA, ES

Contemporary tropical painting featuring a pink inflatable dolphin floating in a jungle river landscape, combining vibrant nature imagery with balloon animal aesthetics. This acrylic on Belgian linen painting by Sofía Cristina Jiménez presents a metallic pink dolphin depicted as an inflatable, balloon-like figure suspended above a calm tropical river. The work belongs to the Plastic Nature series, where animal forms are reinterpreted through synthetic visual language, introducing a subtle dialogue between natural ecosystems and artificial presence. Set within a dense jungle environment, the composition is built through layered greens, soft water reflections, and controlled atmospheric depth. The inflatable dolphin contrasts sharply with its surroundings through its smooth, reflective surface and saturated pink color, creating a focal point that is both playful and visually striking. This contrast reinforces the coexistence of organic and manufactured forms without resorting to overt narrative. The dolphin — a widely recognized and emotionally resonant animal — becomes here a transformed object, shifting from living being to constructed image. Its balloon-like condition introduces associations with lightness, leisure, and consumption, while its placement within a tropical river landscape suggests a quiet displacement rather than direct conflict. Within the Plastic Nature series, these inflatable animal figures operate as mediators between contemporary visual culture and ecological environments. This tropical dolphin painting...

Tricks - Original Oil Painting, Anthropomorphic Scene with Cat and Seagull

By Wendy Vaughan

Located in Chicago, IL

In this fantastical painting animals reign supreme. An enrobed cat observes/directs as a seagull deftly flies through a suspended hoop. Wendy Vaughan seems to infuse her artwork with mystical powers. Backgrounds are layered with symbols and clothing vibrates with magical floating shapes. Her choice of colors are punched up to a level of saturation as to make her work seem otherworldly. Prominent colors in this painting are bright blues in the water, soft oranges in the cat's fur, and purple, gold and pink in the cat's garment. This artwork is framed in dark wood with painted gold inset. Wendy Vaughan Tricks oil on linen 23h x 29w in 58.42h x 73.66w cm Wendy Vaughan (maiden name Wendy Kornmiller) grew up in West Bloomfield, outside of Detroit, where her father was a car designer for Chrysler and one of the original designers of the Ford Thunderbird...

Born in Epping, England in 1893, she lived and worked predominantly in London where she became a prominent member of several British arts clubs and societies. She first learned to paint in the Impressionist style of her father, but after a brief period of formal study with Walter Sickert in 1913 she renounced formal art schooling. Throughout her career, Orovida always remained outside of any mainstream British art movements. Much to Lucien's disappointment she soon turned away from naturalistic painting and developed her own unusual style combining elements of Japanese, Chinese, Persian and Indian art. Her rejection of Impressionism, which for the Pissarro family had become a way of life, together with the simultaneous decision to drop her famous last name and simply use Orovida as a ‘nom de peintre’, reflected a deep desire for independence and distance from the weight of the family legacy. Orovida's most distinctive and notable works were produced from the period of 1919 to 1939 using her own homemade egg tempera applied in thin, delicate washes to silk, linen or paper and sometimes embellished with brocade borders. These elegant and richly decorative works generally depict Eastern, Asian and African subjects, such as Mongolian horse...
