Fannie Burr was a highly accomplished painter and one of our earlier American women artists! This very contemporary, fresh and appealing floral study was done circa 1895!! The rarity of this and its virtuoso execution could lend it to being in the collection of a Connecticut museum. Along with her sister Jennie, they were known as the "Burr Sisters". They did focus on paintings of still life and nature which would have been acceptable for a female artist of the period. Fannie studied at the Yale School of Art and then the Art Students League in New York. She was assistant to Julian Alden Weir a major CT impressionist, while he was at Yale teaching. The composition is avant-hard for this date! It is in an exceptional hand carved 22 karat frame of high value, Art Nouveau style. In the estate of 700 or so paintings by Fannie and Jenny Burr it was found that they did not sign most of the paintings. Kang was always an avid doodler, often in her textbooks, which became a helpful communication tool as she adjusted to her new life. Since the early 1990s, Kang has lived and worked in NYC, painting, printmaking and turning her doodles into a successful business with her sisters. Kang earned fine art degrees at UC Santa Barbara and Pasadena Art Center College of Design where she graduated with distinction. She has been awarded residencies at The Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown (FAWC), the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and the Vermont Studio Center. She has taught at the L.A. County High School for the Arts, the ArtCenter College of Design and the School of Visual Art in NYC. Her fine art is in private collections around the world. Margherita Leoni was born and raised in Italy, however, she spent most of her adult life in San Paulo, Brazil. It was there that she started a collaboration with the botanical faculty of the local university, allowing her to developed an interesting research in rare botanical species studies and drawings. American, b. 1949 In his more than three decades as an artist, Nicholas Berger (b. 1949) has created an outstanding body of work that continues to evolve and excite viewers. Best known for his industrial, waterfront scenes of New York between 1930-1970, Berger effortlessly captures a period when the technology and landscape of the city was rapidly changing. Although he paints scenes of a bygone era, Berger draws inspiration from the waterfronts near his home in New York’s Hudson River Highlands as well as historical sources in museums. Berger holds BFA and MFA degrees from Alfred University. Earlier in his career, the artist painted representational landscapes rendered in watercolor, a medium in which he achieved great success, sharing a sellout two-person show in Tokyo with Andrew Wyeth.
