'Stork Bird' original opal serpentine Shona sculpture signed by Jonathan Nhete
'Stork Bird' original opal serpentine Shona sculpture signed by Jonathan Nhete

'Stork Bird' original opal serpentine Shona sculpture signed by Jonathan Nhete

Located in Milwaukee, WI

'Stork Bird' is an original opal serpentine stone sculpture signed by the contemporary Zimbabwean artist Jonathan Nhete. The artist presents in this sculpture a highly abstracted figure of a bird, the long beak and eye of which emerges shining and polished from within a heroic almond-shaped loop formed by the bird's wings. Such abstracted forms recall traditional African sculpture as well as the work of modern masters like Constantin Brancusi who looked to non-Western sources for inspiration. The sculpture's surface is brought to a beautiful polish, allowing the green of the serpentine to create a glittering depth as immense as a lake or river. opal serpentine 32 x 19 x 6 1/2 inches, sculpture 2.75 x 12 x 12 inches, concrete and marble base (included at request of buyer) 34 .75 x 19 x 12 inches, overall 85 lbs signed "Nhete Jonathan" along bottom edge on reverse with hole drilled in foot to accommodate 0.5-inch steel support rod overall good condition; brown stain at base of bird neck; some minor scratches Jonathan Nhete was born on November 16, 1972 into a family of 5 boys. He decided to explore in the art industry and was fascinated by the works made by a local artist Dudzai Mushawepwere...

'Caring Mother' original springstone Shona sculpture by Brighton Mutongwizo

Located in Milwaukee, WI

'Caring Mother' is an original springstone sculpture by the Zimbabwean artist Brighton Mutongwizo. The sculpture presents a moment of motherly devotion, with a woman's tall figure embracing her child. Their faces are calm and content, with downcast eyes and full lips. In capturing these figures, Mutongwizo plays with the texture and finish of the stone, using a fine polish to emphasize the softness of skin alongside natural and rough textures to describe the texture and movement of hair. springstone 26 x 8 x 5 inches, sculpture 1.25 x 7 x 7 inches, base 27.25 x 8 x 7 inches, overall not signed acquired directly from the artist overall excellent condition with no signs of wear or damage Brighton Mutongwizo was born on the 15th of March, 1975. Guidance

By Ben Young

Located in New York, NY

Ben Young’s sculpture fluidly blends glass, concrete, bronze, steel, and light to depict romantic and pensive imagery highlighting the fragility of our climate and its most precious resource – water. Born in Australia and raised in New Zealand, Young is an avid surfer and environmentalist, inspired by a lifetime on and around oceans, bays, and reefs, with an intimate understanding of the challenges our precious ecosystems face. Young’s thought-provoking sculpture shows great range, portraying the beauty and solitude of life on the ocean, haunting depths of the deep sea, and stunning and relaxing upside of island life. Water is many things to many people, which Young encapsulates brilliantly in his work, encompassing themes of sustainability throughout. Using concrete to create mountains, crevasses, sand bars, and cliffs, Young’s innovative use of materials is transportative. With hand-carved glass as his guiding medium, Young amplifies light and its relationship with water – our most sacred element – to create a glowing unity that people from around the world connect with on a personal level, whether they are beachside or in the Desert.
