Abstract Sculptures

ABSTRACT STYLE

Beginning in the early 20th century, abstract art became a leading style of modernism. Rather than portray the world in a way that represented reality, as had been the dominating style of Western art in the previous centuries, abstract paintings, prints and sculptures are marked by a shift to geometric forms, gestural shapes and experimentation with color to express ideas, subject matter and scenes.

Although abstract art flourished in the early 1900s, propelled by movements like Fauvism and Cubism, it was rooted in the 19th century. In the 1840s, J.M.W. Turner emphasized light and motion for atmospheric paintings in which concrete details were blurred, and Paul Cézanne challenged traditional expectations of perspective in the 1890s.

Some of the earliest abstract artists — Wassily Kandinsky and Hilma af Klint — expanded on these breakthroughs while using vivid colors and forms to channel spiritual concepts. Painter Piet Mondrian, a Dutch pioneer of the art movement, explored geometric abstraction partly owing to his belief in Theosophy, which is grounded in a search for higher spiritual truths and embraces philosophers of the Renaissance period and medieval mystics. Black Square, a daringly simple 1913 work by Russian artist Kazimir Malevich, was a watershed statement on creating art that was free “from the dead weight of the real world,” as he later wrote.

Surrealism in the 1920s, led by artists such as Salvador Dalí, Meret Oppenheim and others, saw painters creating abstract pieces in order to connect to the subconscious. When Abstract Expressionism emerged in New York during the mid-20th century, it similarly centered on the process of creation, in which Helen Frankenthaler’s expressive “soak-stain” technique, Jackson Pollock’s drips of paint, and Mark Rothko’s planes of color were a radical new type of abstraction.

Conceptual art, Pop art, Hard-Edge painting and many other movements offered fresh approaches to abstraction that continued into the 21st century, with major contemporary artists now exploring it, including Anish Kapoor, Mark Bradford, El Anatsui and Julie Mehretu.

The project "Eternal and Ingenious" is based on portraits of famous artists from around the world and Ukraine. The concept of the work - the image of internal and external psychological image, state of mind and creative impulse of the artist. Using elements of his works and creative ideas in the portrait. The main thing in the portrait is not 100% similarity and his soul and inner state and creative world. Prodanchuk Viktor Pavlovych was born on February 4, 1975 in the small town of Dunaievtsi, Khmelnytskyi region in a family of the artist, school teacher of history and nurse. In the childhood Viktor often was in the Cossack valley where there lived the grandmother of maternal grandmother Rafaila Voitivna who told about the cruel Cossack fights of Khmelnytskyi times which occurred in the Cossack valley. It has influenced on the further formation of national consciousness. Repeatedly participated in the Olympic Games in history and geography, taking prizes. The father Pavlo Prodanchuk being a school art teacher, has imparted to Viktor love to art that has affected the future of the boy. In 1990 he entered the Kosvivskyi college of decorative and applied art on the specialty of metal art. During one of excursion trips to Lviv, Lev's city so impressed Viktor that he decided further to combine the life with the capital of the Western Ukraine. In 1995 he entered the Lviv Academy of Arts and obtained the graphic designer's phases. During tuition at Academy of arts he joined to the restoration of Uspenskyi, Zlatoverkhyi cathedrals, Kyiv Pechersk Lavra and church of the Nativity on the Podol where read the burial songs over Taras Shevchenko...

His varied practice, all deriving from custom computer software, also includes audiovisual performance, immersive video installations, sculpture, and works on paper. His work has been performed and exhibited in many prestigious institutions worldwide including V&A Museum, London; Park Avenue Armory, New York; National Art Center, Tokyo; UCCA, Beijing; How Art Museum, Shanghai; SeMA, Seoul; Palais de Tokyo, Paris; Ars Electronica, Linz; Sonar Festival, Barcelona and Sundance Film Festival. Pathway
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Kristina Grace is a fine artist who both resides and draws inspiration from the Southern California coastline. Living in Newport Beach has served as a constant source of inspiration for Grace. Her life and work reflect countless hours spent on the sand surrounded by surfers and the culture that comes with it. Grace’s art is colorful and whimsical, reflecting a joy found in her surrounding environment. Her unique sculptural works are a result of time spent at a local surf glassing shop, where she honed her interpretation and technique of applying epoxy and polyester resins. While these types of resins are typically used for creating surfboards, Grace has taken the medium even further, incorporating applications of tinted resins on top of small, assemblage figurines in her work. Surfers, skateboarders, and snowboarders appear throughout her current body of work. In addition to resins, Grace works with dense foam and fiberglass to create select pieces. Both of these materials pay homage to the surf culture...

VERSO EQUIVALENCE 1 - acrylic, staples, pine wood, cut linen -Abstract geometric
Located in Signal Mountain, TN
This painting by Linda King Ferguson is part of her equivalence series, which began as a feminist project; works that subvert the historically male gaze and a material language speaking of gendered concerns. While typically, King Ferguson paints both sides of the canvas and cuts a flap on the the frontside to reveal the color of the back of the canvas, she unexpectedly does the opposite here. The painting is hung from the "frontside" of the canvas, revealing to us the raw edges of her linen canvas, stapled to the stretchers. Two oblong shapes of pink and red dominate the center of the painting. A thin semioval cut has been made inside of both of these shapes. Her color choices first came from Helen Molesworth’s essay, Painting With Ambivalence, published in WACK! Art of the Feminist Revolution. The Essay includes a large reproduction of Mary Heilmann’s 1979 painting...
