Contemporary Sculptures

CONTEMPORARY STYLE

Used to refer to a time rather than an aesthetic, Contemporary art generally describes pieces created after 1970 or being made by living artists anywhere in the world. This immediacy means it encompasses art responding to the present moment through diverse subjects, media and themes. Contemporary painting, sculpture, photography, performance, digital art, video and more frequently includes work that is attempting to reshape current ideas about what art can be, from Felix Gonzalez-Torres’s use of candy to memorialize a lover he lost to AIDS-related complications to Jenny Holzer’s ongoing “Truisms,” a Conceptual series that sees provocative messages printed on billboards, T-shirts, benches and other public places that exist outside of formal exhibitions and the conventional “white cube” of galleries.

Contemporary art has been pushing the boundaries of creative expression for years. Its disruption of the traditional concepts of art are often aiming to engage viewers in complex questions about identity, society and culture. In the latter part of the 20th century, contemporary movements included Land art, in which artists like Robert Smithson and Michael Heizer create large-scale, site-specific sculptures, installations and other works in soil and bodies of water; Sound art, with artists such as Christian Marclay and Susan Philipsz centering art on sonic experiences; and New Media art, in which mass media and digital culture inform the work of artists such as Nam June Paik and Rafaël Rozendaal.

The first decades of the 21st century have seen the growth of Contemporary African art, the revival of figurative painting, the emergence of street art and the rise of NFTs, unique digital artworks that are powered by blockchain technology.

Major Contemporary artists practicing now include Ai Weiwei, Cecily Brown, David Hockney, Yayoi Kusama, Jeff Koons, Takashi Murakami and Kara Walker.

"Kings Remains" 24K Gold Sculpture 8 x 2 in Ed. of 10 by Colin Burn
Located in Culver City, CA
"Kings Remains" 24K Gold Sculpture 8 x 2 in Ed. of 10 by Colin Burn Medium: 24K Yellow Gold, 18K White Gold & Diamonds Edition of 10 NOTE: preparation time may take up to 8 weeks. Pure 24k yellow gold skull and spinal olisbos sculpture featuring an 18k solid white gold royal crown, set with 10 carats of flawless sparkling white diamonds. Sculpture comes with Limited Edition Artist Certificate of Authenticity and Jewelry Certificate of Materials. The crypt of the Kings Remains represents mortality and preserved sexual energy. The sexual spirit lives beyond the grave, etched into history and carried forward by those who have experienced this erotic power. The energy of an erotic past runs through us all, leaving a perpetual sexual imprint for others to follow and immortalize. “The encasing of mind, body and soul as entombed sexual energy, preserved among the ruins of life” - Colin Burn Inspiration & Context - Immortality was the underlying inspiration when creating this sculpture. A Vanitas reflecting on ancient royal entombment as man’s vain attempt to remain immortal by being buried with ones treasures. I wanted the sculpture to represent the encasing of mind, body and soul as entombed sexual energy, preserved among the ruins of life. The sculpture symbolizes how ones sexual energy is at the core of their being and how it can transcend beyond the grave for others pleasure and satisfaction. Materials - Electroformed from pure 24k gold featuring a solid 18k white gold royal crown, set with 10 carats of flawless diamonds. ABOUT COLIN BURN: Australian artist Colin Burn is a bold provocateur in the world of conceptual art, using his work to disrupt societal norms and spark critical dialogue often around uncomfortable truths. His art pushes boundaries, urging viewers to rethink their assumptions on value, power, and meaning, especially in contexts often deemed taboo or overlooked. Known for his masterful fusion of symbolism and opulence, Burn transforms ordinary objects into potent allegories, frequently employing their high monetary value to amplify the emotional and intellectual resonance of his themes. He understands that society frequently ties value to price, and this awareness is central to his approach. With an attention-grabbing allure, Burn’s work invites viewers to look beyond the surface, encouraging them to explore the deeper, often concealed meanings behind what they see—reminding them that true value lies not only in the material cost, but in the idea or theme that it represents. A compelling example of this is his Pearl Royale chess set...

Columnar I - Original Silver Sculpture
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Atticus Adams' organically composed modern metal sculptures embody the transformative power of contemporary art, illustrating the creation of beauty, meaning, and emotional impact from industrial materials. Using mostly aluminum mesh—generally found in screen doors, windows, and filters—he creates contemporary abstract sculptural artworks and installations, which resemble flowers, clouds, and other natural phenomena. Working in metal, Adams effortlessly transforms rigid material into airy, effervescent artworks. This 35-inch high by 10-inch wide by 8-inch deep tabletop sculpture created from aluminum mesh, gesso, acrylic paint, metal leafing, rivets, wire, and grommets on a metal stand. Size and price include stand. Atticus works spontaneously, feeling his way toward the objects that take shape in his mind as he shapes them almost entirely by hand. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Atticus grew up in West Virginia, steeped in traditional folk art. Several members of his family are self-taught artists, deeply involved in such crafts as wood carving and quilting. His formal art training includes stints at Yale, Rhode Island School of Design, and Harvard’s School of Architecture. Atticus has fond summer memories of screened-in porches back home and screen doors that practically dissolved the barrier between inside and outside, allowing the warmth and nature to permeate each day. This association continues to resonate in his art. “Metal mesh is a beautiful, flexible material that allows you to explore shadow and transparency in endless ways,” he says. “The material lends itself to these biomorphic shapes, which aren’t necessarily intentional . . . The sculptures seem fragile but are actually quite resilient—like nature itself.” A well-known sculptor, the organically inspired artworks of Atticus Adams are held in public and private collections and are exhibited in galleries and museums across the United States. The Portal: World We See - contemporary, geometric, abstract, steel sculpture
Located in Bloomfield, ON
This impressive circular architectural sculpture was created by Jeffrey Gillmor. An experienced metal artisan, this outdoor piece—a circle cut from a square is forged from etched steel and has a rust-coloured patina. Gillmor favours minimalist forms and finds inspiration for his work in nature’s colours, textures and shapes. World We See allows the viewer to not only see through the expansive ‘portal’ but walk through it as well. This is the largest of three similar sculptures in a series, each cut from the same four face plates of steel, producing another sculpture from the inside of the last. This piece is in an edition of 5 and is available on commission. Please allow 6-8 weeks for delivery upon completion. “The World we see and live in is much more complex than I feel it has to be, so we need to keep (everything) in perspective, keep basic positive values ... as we pass through the circle of life.” Jeff Gillmor...

Hopeful (19/35) - Yellow Figurative Sculpture with Glossy Green Balloon
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Nayla Saroufim creates glossy balloon sculptures for display on a table or hanging on a wall or ceiling that challenge the traditional notion of the passive viewer. Saroufim's art is a rich mix of media. She was always captivated by the dialogue between painting, illustration, and graphics. Her work embodies her attraction to colors and interest in all forms of expression, especially installations. Her technique is unique and personalized: a fusion of mixed media and installations in layers of steel, copper, paint, and other elements. Saroufim strives to make her positivity and love of happiness appear in her art, sparking emotion and thoughts in viewers. This sculpture measures 26-inches high by 12-inches wide and has an 8-inch wide steel base. It is signed and dated underneath the base of the artwork. This sculpture is numbered 19 out of 35. This sculpture can be displayed easily on any flat surface and may be viewed from any vantage point. Free local Los Angeles delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and International shipping are available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Nayla Saroufim was born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1982. She graduated from the Académie Lebanese des Beaux-Arts with a degree in Illustration and Art Direction. While working in the publicity field at several multinational advertising agencies, Saroufim began rekindling her interest in art. Creative, a dreamer, and a lover of color and beauty, Saroufim has been engaging in a creative expression of her personality through art for over a decade. She hopes that by looking at her art, people will realize that there is beauty and happiness in the simplest things. Nayla Saroufim’s work has graced the walls of solo exhibitions including a show in London in December 2015 and one in Beirut in October 2013. Her work has been exhibited at the Beirut Art Fair, in Singapore, and at Asia Contemporary Art. Artspace Warehouse Los Angeles has exhibited her sculptural artworks since 2020. Sujoon - Cornflower Portal - Large Lightweight Three-Dimensional Wall Sculpture
This 48-inch high by 44-inch wide and 4-inch deep metal sculpture is a lightweight form. It is created from aluminum and copper mesh, gesso, acrylic paint, and wire. It has metal rings affixed on the back which allows for easy installation.
