How Much is a White And Gold Mirror?
Finding the Right Mirrors for You
The road from early innovations in reflective glass to the alluring antique and vintage mirrors in trendy modern interiors has been a long one but we’re reminded of the journey everywhere we look.
In many respects, wall mirrors, floor mirrors and full-length mirrors are to interior design what jeans are to dressing. Exceedingly versatile. Universally flattering. Unobtrusively elegant. And while all mirrors are not created equal, even in their most elaborate incarnation, they're still the heavy lifters of interior design, visually enlarging and illuminating any space.
We’ve come a great distance from the polished stone that served as mirrors in Central America thousands of years ago or the copper mirrors of Mesopotamia before that. Today’s coveted glass Venetian mirrors, which should be cleaned with a solution of white vinegar and water, were likely produced in Italy beginning in the 1500s, while antique mirrors originating during the 19th century can add the rustic farmhouse feel to your mudroom that you didn’t know you needed.
By the early 20th century, experiments with various alloys allowed for mirrors to be made inexpensively. The geometric shapes and beveled edges that characterize mirrors crafted in the Art Deco style of the 1920s can bring pizzazz to your entryway, while an ornate LaBarge mirror made in the Hollywood Regency style makes a statement in any bedroom. Friedman Brothers is a particularly popular manufacturer known for decorative round and rectangular framed mirrors designed in the Rococo, Louis XVI and other styles, including dramatic wall mirrors framed in gold faux bamboo that bear the hallmarks of Asian design.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, mid-century modernism continues to influence the design of contemporary mirrors. Today’s simple yet chic mantel mirror frames, for example, often neutral in color, owe to the understated mirror designs introduced in the postwar era.
Sculptor and furniture maker Paul Evans had been making collage-style cabinets since at least the late 1950s when he designed his Patchwork mirror — part of a series that yielded expressive works of combined brass, copper and pewter — for Directional Furniture during the mid-1960s. Several books celebrating Evans’s work were published beginning in the early 2000s, as his unconventional furniture has been enjoying a moment not unlike the resurgence that the Ultrafragola mirror is seeing. Designed by the Memphis Group’s Ettore Sottsass in 1970, the Ultrafragola mirror, in all its sensuous acrylic splendor, has become somewhat of a star thanks to much-lauded appearances in shelter magazines and on social media.
On 1stDibs, we have a broad selection of vintage and antique mirrors and tips on how to style your contemporary mirror too.

- When was white gold invented?1 Answer1stDibs ExpertAugust 8, 2024White gold was invented during the 19th century when jewelers discovered how to alloy gold with palladium. In 1912, German jewelry makers began using white gold as an inexpensive alternative to palladium. Over the decades that followed, the use of white gold spread, and today, many luxury jewelry makers produce pieces from the material. Find a wide range of white gold jewelry on 1stDibs.
- What is a gold gilt mirror?1 Answer1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022A gold gilt mirror has gold decorative details along the frame. Gilt mirrors often have a thin layer of gold leaf around the edges to create an attractive gold finish. Shop a collection of gold gilt mirrors on 1stDibs.

- 1stDibs ExpertFebruary 27, 2024The difference between yellow gold and white gold comes down to the alloys used to produce them. Yellow gold gets its color from pure gold and alloy metals in warm hues like copper. On the other hand, white gold's cool appearance is owed to the presence of alloy metals like silver, zinc, palladium and nickel. Shop a variety of gold jewelry on 1stDibs.
- Are white gold earrings good?1 Answer1stDibs ExpertNovember 1, 2023Yes, white gold earrings can be good options. Many people love the cool, sleek appearance of the metal, and the color of white gold can coordinate with other jewelry made of platinum and sterling silver, making it highly versatile. Plus, white gold offers the durability of gold metal, particularly if you opt for a strong alloy like 14- or 18-karat gold. On 1stDibs, explore a large selection of white gold earrings.
- Can wedding rings be white gold?1 Answer1stDibs ExpertNovember 1, 2023Yes, white gold can be used in wedding rings. In fact, the precious metal offers distinctive benefits because it doesn't tarnish and resists corrosion. The metal is also relatively malleable, allowing it to be adorned with intricate details and engravings. Shop a range of white gold wedding rings on 1stDibs.
- Is the Rolex Daytona white gold?1 Answer1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022The Rolex Daytona is available in a variety of constructions, including white gold, yellow gold and platinum. - 1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022Like most white gold, Cartier white gold is made from a mixture of traditional yellow gold with white metal—typically silver, nickel or palladium. The metal is then covered with a very thin layer of rhodium, which gives it its final appearance. Shop a collection of Cartier jewelry from some of the world’s top sellers on 1stDibs.
- 1stDibs ExpertFebruary 22, 2021Yes, platinum is more expensive than white gold due to its rarity. Additionally, it is more durable and generally requires less polishing than white goal.
- 1stDibs ExpertNovember 1, 2023Whether white gold or yellow gold is better for diamond earrings is a matter of personal preference. Due to its cool color, white gold will blend in with diamonds and keep the eye focused on the gemstones. Yellow gold will add warm color to earrings and make a bold contrast with the diamonds. Explore a large collection of diamond earrings on 1stDibs.
- 1stDibs ExpertNovember 21, 2023Yes, you can generally wear white gold earrings every day. However, you'll need to care for your jewelry properly to ensure that it stands the test of time. White gold can fade and require replating, but cleaning it regularly according to the maker's instructions can slow this process. Also, remove your earrings before swimming or showering. Shop a large selection of white gold earrings on 1stDibs.
- 1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022The Rolex Perpetual is available in a variety of constructions, including white gold, yellow gold and platinum. - 1stDibs ExpertNovember 1, 2023What a white gold wedding band means is open to interpretation. However, many people simply equate the rings with the promise to remain married to someone for the rest of their lives. While the circle shape has always symbolized an unending pledge of love to one's partner, preferred materials in the production of wedding bands have changed over time (white gold and yellow gold are among the most popular metals). Some people associate white gold with purity and innocence due to its color. Shop a diverse assortment of white gold wedding bands on 1stDibs.
- 1stDibs ExpertNovember 2, 2023What karat white gold is best for wedding rings depends on personal preferences. Generally, 18-karat white gold has more visible yellow undertones because it contains more gold. Because it is a harder metal, 14-karat white gold may resist scratches better than 18-karat. On 1stDibs, find a variety of white gold wedding rings.
- 1stDibs ExpertNovember 21, 2023Whether diamond studs are better in white or yellow gold depends on your preferences. Yellow gold makes an appealing contrast with clear diamonds and brings warmth to earrings. On the other hand, white gold's cooler appearance can allow the diamonds to take center stage. Choose the variety that you like best. On 1stDibs, explore a diverse assortment of diamond stud earrings.
- Is 10k white gold good quality?1 Answer1stDibs ExpertAugust 17, 2021No, 10-karat white gold is not good quality as compared to gold with a higher karat weight because it has less pure gold in it. The higher the karat weight, the more gold there is. Most high-end jewelry retailers sell 18-karat gold.
- 1stDibs ExpertSeptember 16, 2024How much a 10k white gold ring is worth changes over time. On its own, 10-karat white gold has value, but scrap metal prices tend to fluctuate. A ring may be worth more than the going rate for 10-karat white gold based on its maker, age, style and other factors. A certified appraiser or knowledgeable jeweler can provide you with a more specific valuation. Explore a collection of white gold rings on 1stDibs.
- 1stDibs ExpertNovember 1, 2023Whether platinum or white gold is better for engagement rings is a matter of personal preference. Each type of precious metal has certain advantages. White gold tends to be more affordable and is less malleable, increasing its durability. Platinum requires less maintenance and retains its color over time. Find a variety of platinum and white gold engagement rings on 1stDibs.
- 1stDibs ExpertNovember 8, 2023Whether you should wear a yellow or white gold sapphire ring is a matter of personal choice. Some people love the look of contrasting metals and stones, so they may prefer to place a cool blue or clear sapphire in a warm-toned yellow gold setting. Those who want a more unified look can choose metals and gemstones with a similar color temperature, such as white gold with a blue sapphire. Shop a wide variety of sapphire rings on 1stDibs.
