This is a superb antique English neoclassical silver plated tray by the renowned English silversmith, James Deakin, circa 1870 in date. This rectangular tray features a deep set, decorative gadrooned border with elegant handles decorated with superb foliate and floral chased and engraved decoration of ribbons and garlands. The quality and craftsmanship throughout the piece are truly second to none. Condition: In excellent condition with no dings, dents or signs of repair. Please see photos for confirmation. Before 1886 he was joined in partnership by his three sons, William Pitchford, John and Albert and the style of the firm was changed to James Deakin & Sons. In 1888 they opened London offices and showrooms at 48 Holborn Viaduct. Other branches were opened at Glasgow and Belfast. In 1897 the firm was converted to James Deakin & Sons Ltd. In 1935, James Deakin & Sons Ltd was part of a short-lived merger "Silver & Steelcrafts Ltd" that included Fenton Bros and J.H. Potter & Sons. The combine collapsed within three years. In 1939 was created Deakins (Silversmiths) Ltd, active at 6 Earl Street and, from 1943 at Sidney Works, Matilda Street. They were liquidated in 1967. In 1961 the brand was part of the "MONOGRAM" CUTLERY GROUP belonging to I.S. Dearden & Sons Ltd. manufacturing holloware and flatware under the "Bell brand" in the patterns 'Gordon', 'Balmoral' and 'Empire'. Trade marks used: AZTEC, BELL SILVER...

An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Edwardian English sterling silver presentation cup; an addition to our presentation silverware collection This exceptional antique Edwardian sterling silver cup has a plain circular bell shaped form to a knopped pedestal onto a circular spreading foot. This is a fine quality antique silver-plated Victorian centrepiece bearing the makers stamp to the underside of the renowned silversmiths James Deakin & Son, of Sheffield, London, Birmingham & Chester, Circa 1890 in date. This wonderful centerpiece was made with a central vase for flowers and a dishe either side, each can be removed when required, to house sweetsd, fruit, nuts, etc A lot of intricate detailing has gone into the creation of this beautiful item. This is an extremely well designed and attractive piece that can only grow in value. Condition: In excellent condition with clear makers marks and no dings, dents or signs of repair. The first mark was entered by the firm in Sheffield Assay Office on 31 January 1878. It was a "JD" over "WD" and, possibly, represented the partnership of James Deakin and his son William Pitchford Deakin. The firm was active at Sidney Works, Matilda Street, Sheffield. In 1886 two further sons entered in the partnership, John Deakin and Albert Deakin, and the firm was then known as James Deakin & Sons. Further marks were entered in London Assay Office (1888) by William and John Deakin (subsidiary offices and showrooms at 48 Holborn Viaduct, London), Chester and Birmingham. Further offices and showrooms were opened at Gardiner House, 14 Charterhouse Street, London, 34 St. Enoch Square, Glasgow and 7 Queen Street, Belfast. After the retirement of James Deakin (1893) the business was continued by his sons William, John and Albert.
