Haviland Limoges Ranson Porcelain Cup and Saucer Set, Gold Trim

Located in Coral Gables, FL

A refined set of four Haviland Limoges porcelain cups and saucers in the classic Ranson pattern, made in France and finished in luminous white porcelain with delicate gold trim. The photos may give the porcelain a soft pink or warm tone because of the lighting, but the pieces are white with gilt edging. Each cup has a graceful rounded form with a simple handle accented in gold, paired with a matching scalloped saucer featuring the elegant molded rim associated with the Ranson blank. The Ranson pattern is one of the most recognizable Haviland Limoges forms, admired for its quiet elegance, sculptural edge, and timeless simplicity. Haviland Limoges Porcelain Demitasse Cups and Saucers, Set of 6
Haviland Limoges Porcelain Demitasse Cups and Saucers, Set of 6

Haviland Limoges Porcelain Demitasse Cups and Saucers, Set of 6

Located in Coral Gables, FL

A delicate set of six Haviland Limoges porcelain demitasse cups and matching saucers, made in France and decorated with soft pink floral sprays, pale green foliage, and refined gilt accents. Each cup has a graceful small-scale form with a curved handle finished in gold, paired with a scalloped saucer that echoes the same romantic floral decoration. The porcelain body is luminous white, giving the soft rose and green pattern a light, elegant, and distinctly French presence. This set is designed for demitasse service, espresso, after-dinner coffee, tea, or decorative display. The smaller scale gives the pieces a refined table quality, ideal for formal coffee service, dessert courses, afternoon tea, or a collected cabinet arrangement. The floral decoration feels romantic without being heavy, and the gilt detail adds just enough refinement to make the set feel special. Haviland Limoges is one of the most recognized names in French porcelain, admired for its fine white porcelain body, delicate decoration, and long association with elegant domestic entertaining. This set reflects that tradition beautifully, with graceful proportions, soft floral ornament, and the quiet sophistication associated with early twentieth-century Limoges tableware. This offering is for six demitasse cups and six matching saucers only. Spoons are not included. The set displays beautifully on open shelving, in a china cabinet, on a tea table, or layered with silver plate, linen, crystal, floral porcelain, and other collected French tableware. Presented in antique to early vintage condition consistent with age and use, with light wear appropriate to porcelain tableware of this period, including possible minor gilt wear and natural surface marks from use. A lovely and collectible Haviland Limoges demitasse...

Hermès Paris Set of 4 Stirrup Napkin Rings in Solid Silver & Vermeil circa 1970
Hermès Paris Set of 4 Stirrup Napkin Rings in Solid Silver & Vermeil circa 1970

Hermès Paris Set of 4 Stirrup Napkin Rings in Solid Silver & Vermeil circa 1970

By Hermès

Located in Saint-Amans-des-Cots, FR

Elegant and very rare set of four Hermès Paris stirrup-shaped napkin rings, comprising two examples in solid silver and two in vermeil. The design is a direct reference to the historic equestrian heritage of Hermès. The stirrup, an unmistakable symbol of saddlery and horseback riding, is transformed here into a highly refined table accessory. The lines are clean, sculptural, and beautifully balanced, with the understated sophistication so characteristic of Hermès design. Two napkin rings are crafted in solid silver and two in vermeil, meaning solid silver covered with a fine layer of gold. Vermeil combines the quality and weight of silver with the warmer appearance of gilding, creating a particularly elegant contrast within the set. On one of the two vermeil examples, the gilding appears lighter and is less pronounced. This is entirely consistent with normal age-related wear: vermeil is a delicate surface finish and naturally shows some softening and fading over time, particularly on pieces that have been handled and used. These Hermès napkin rings were originally offered in pairs, each pair combining one solid-silver example with one vermeil example, in the traditional spirit of a matching setting for him and her. The present set is therefore especially desirable and very rare as a group of four, bringing together two complete pairs: two in solid silver and two in vermeil. Each napkin ring is signed HERMÈS PARIS and bears its precious-metal hallmarks, with an engraved number also visible on some examples. These marks further reflect the quality of the workmanship and materials used. The workmanship is especially refined, with a subtle and timeless elegance. The stirrup shape is beautifully resolved: discreet, elegant, and immediately evocative of the Maison’s equestrian identity. For convenient storage at home, the four napkin rings are accompanied, as a complimentary extra, by a Hermès felt pouch originally designed for storing a watch. It is included as a small gift to allow the pieces to be kept neatly and safely when not in use. A beautiful, very rare and distinctive Hermès table...

Antique and Vintage Tableware

While it isn’t always top of mind for some, antique and vintage tableware can enhance even the most informal meal. It has been an intimate part of how we’ve interacted with our food for millennia.

Tableware has played a basic but important role in everyday life. Ancient Egyptians used spoons (which are classified as flatware) made of ivory and wood, while Greeks and Romans, who gathered for banquets involving big meals and entertainment, ate with forks and knives. At the beginning of the 17th century, however, forks were still uncommon in American homes. Over time, tableware has thankfully evolved and today includes increasingly valuable implements.

Tableware refers to the tools people use to set the table, including serving pieces, dinner plates and more. It encompasses everything from the intricate and elaborate to the austere and functional, yet are all what industrial product designer Jasper Morrison might call “Super Normal” — anonymous objects that are too useful to be considered banal.

There are four general categories of tableware — serveware, dinnerware, drinkware and, lastly, flatware, which is commonly referred to as silverware or cutlery. Serveware includes serving bowls, platters, gravy boats, casserole pans and ladles. Most tableware is practical, but it can also be decorative. And decorative objects count as tableware too. Even though they don’t fit squarely into one of the four categories, vases, statues and floral arrangements are traditional centerpieces.

Drinkware appropriately refers to the vessels we use for our beverages — mugs, cups and glasses. There is a good deal of variety that falls under this broad term. For example, your cheerful home bar or mid-century modern bar cart might be outfitted with a full range of vintage barware, which might include pilsner glasses and tumblers. Specialty cocktails are often served in these custom glasses, but they’re still a type of drinkware.

Every meal should be special — even if you’re using earthenware or stoneware for a casual lunch — but perhaps you’re hosting a dinner party to mark a specific event. The right high-quality tableware can bring a touch of luxury to your cuisine. Young couples, for example, traditionally add “fine china,” or porcelain, to their wedding registry as a commemoration of their union and likely wouldn’t turn down exquisite silver made by Tiffany & Co. or Georg Jensen.

It’s important to remember, however, that when you’re setting the dining room table to have fun with it. Just as you might mix and match your dining chairs, don’t be afraid to mix new and old or high and low with your tableware. Whether bone china or porcelain is better is a matter of personal opinion. Fired at a higher temperature, porcelain tends to have a more durable finish, but bone china is less likely to chip and crack. Some people prefer the weighty feel of porcelain. Others find the lighter quality of bone china to be preferable. Both bone china and porcelain can stand the test of time when finely crafted and properly cared for.
