An exceptional, fine and impressive, rare pair of antique George IV English sterling silver boxes; an addition to our 19th century silverware collection. These exceptional and rare antique George IV sterling silver boxes have a plain rectangular form. The surface of each silver box is plain and unembellished, with applied thread decoration to the lower rim. Each box is fitted with a plain hinged hallmarked cover, ornamented with further applied thread decoration to the upper rim. The upper plateaus of the covers are individually embellished with an impressive contemporary bright cut engraved crest: one bears out of a ducal coronet a wyvern below the motto 'Avi Numerantur Avorum' - The forefathers of our forefathers are numbered and to the other an eagle regardant with wings extended grasping an escutcheon charged with a lion's head, below the 'Virtute et Robore' - By Virtue and Strength. By virtue of its size these versatile 19th century boxes could be used for a multitude of functions. Such original boxes of this period and size are becoming increasingly difficult to locate. A fine pair of vintage Elizabeth II English sterling silver two-light candelabra in the George I style; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection. These fine vintage Elizabeth II sterling silver candelabra have a plain circular form, in the George I style. Each impressive two-light candelabrum retains the original hallmarked detachable push fit scrolling arms, which support two rounded waisted capitals with plain circular dished drip pans. These versatile vintage candelabra can be used as candlesticks once the arms (labra) are detached. The knopped stems are surmounted on sunken wells, to tooled decorated circular spreading bases. The filled bases retain the original leatherette covering to the underside. The base of each was made by Richard Comyns of William Comyns & Sons Ltd and the labra were crafted by William Bruford & Son; these items will have been crafted in the same year but due to the hallmarking system the bases are struck with the date letter 'd' and the labra bear 'e'.
